engine losing power

Hello all, my name is Richard. I have been a member here for a little while now. I currently am having an issue with my 1988 F150. I recently took it down a 18% grade hill to the bottom of a valley here at Ft. Knox. I was returning to my barracks with no issues til I got about a half mile from them. At this time the engine started loping and losing power. I could push the accelerator to the floor and get no repsonse from it. I could let off the accelerator and it would respond again. However it would lope again. I parked at my barracks and it idles fine. Please help, this i my only source of transportation here at Ft. Knox. Please somebody help with my issue. Recently I have replaced the brakes completely, and replaced the speed sensor on the rear axle. I do however have a broken exhaust pipe prior to the muffler, of which I am replacing the whole exhaust when I get more money. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like fuel pressure, so it could be a clogged filter or bad pump. What is the fuel pressure?

If you can borrow a fuel pressure guage it would be great. There is a piece that looks almost like a tire valve on the injector rail. That's where you screw in the gauge.

If you pressure is bad you need a filter, or a bad high pressure pump. If the fuel pressure is good, then the problem is spark. And when need to figure why your spark is cutting out.

Ok, took the truck to the shop this morning to get the abs code read and to borrow a fuel pressure gauge and the truck just stops running period. I had 0 psi on the rail, turns out the in tank fuel pump went bad. Started it up after putting the pump on and it ran for a minute and shut off. Now it will start, run for a few seconds and then shut off, then won't start again til you let it sit for at least 5 minutes. There are dual tanks on it. The only thing that is troubling me now is, with the selector on the front tank, the inline pump continues running and running and the in tank pump does nothing. Switch it to the rear and the inline pump kicks in then off like its suppose to. Please help, i have a bunch of people puzzled about this.

Started the truck yesterday, it ran for approximately 2 minutes then shut off. Started it right back up and it ran for 1 minute then it shut off. After that it wouldnt restart until you let it sit for about 20 minutes or so.

Sounds like it might be possible that the high pressure pump is bad, or going bad. I'm not sure though.

The high pressure is the one in the tank, correct?

No. High pressure is the on on the rail under the cab of the truck. If the tank pumps are running, and your engine it still acting like you said, then its a fuel problem, and the only other pump is the high pressure pump.

After 90 or 91 the tank pump also became the high pressure pump. But 89 and older had a tank pump, then a high pressure pump.

Ok, here's what I did today, replaced the ignition control module, it started and ran like I said before. Restarted it like before, and everything repeated itself. I then started teSting power at all the solenoids and fuel pumps. The inline fuel pump has power, however there is no power to the tank pumps. Please help.
