Coolant change question

In April 2011 I flushed my system with restore and VC9 in hopes of lowering the EO/EC temps. That didn't work so I had a diesel shop put in new coolers. Ford gold was put in, but after an extensive search, ELC seems to be the way to go. Of course found this out after putting in the gold. Shop wouldn't do a delete for me. This is my third cooler and temps are great right now, but I don't want to go down that road again and replace another oil cooler. I am now ready to do a delete and forget about this issue once and for all.

Obviously coolant has to be drained to do the delete, so I plan on changing to ELC once installed. Is it really necessary to do another VC9 and restore during the flush or can I just flush with distilled till water is crystal clear and then add ELC?

Thanks for the help. I appreciate the assistance you guys give!

Not if your temps are ok now.

I don't think the silicates in the gold crap drop out instantly, rather it happens when the coolant is neglected and becomes weakened. Seeing as how you have only had it in a year, unless there is some compelling reason the coolant should still be in good shape.

If you want to back flush the oil cooler, it can be done without removing the EGR cooler. Just remove the cover on the outlet port of the oil cooler under the turbo and insert a5/8 x 1/2 tubing in it and connect to a garden hose and flush the devil out of it. Kinking the hose and giving it a burst every so often helps dislodge any particles of sand or rust from the cooler.

Here is a thought. Do not do the delete, just get a SCT or similar programmer and have it programmed to not open the EGR valve and not set the light.

It does the same as the delete but has the added advantage of being able to be reprogrammed to function as normal should you have to pass an emissions test and saves you a bunch of money.
If you do decided to do the delete and do not use the BPD EGR cooler you have on it now, I would like to make an offer to buy it from you if it will fit my 06

Just my .02

This is a Tough question here because you start running cleaners and stuff in coolant system there is a risk of breaking crap loose and pluging oil cooler again. Its Fairly common to flush with cleaners and make the Deltas worse

There is a Bonding agent in coolant that sticks to the metal like when you boil water on stove and you see the Bubbles form at the bottom of the pan this bonding agaent or whatever stop that in an engine its a hot spot

IIRC the restore cleans the metal of the bonding agent and gives a Fresh start

But IMO the risk maynot be worth the Gain
