If you google t98 transmission rebuild there is a place that sells the parts kit to rebuild it. It tells you what you need and has instructions. I haven't bought it.

The roller bearings have BIN's stamped on them / BIN: Bearing Industry Number that all autoparts stores and bearing shops go by.

Go to NAPA or an indie auto parts store and buy the parts there. Make sure the parts cluck looks in his/her paper parts catalogs, because little to nothing will be listed on their computers.

Some T-98 parts (last year installed: 1964) are the same as T-18 parts (introduced 1965 used into the 1990's), but the computers may not show this.

I can probably find everything you need NOS, but most of the parts will be expensive as all are obsolete with only a few exceptions being available from Ford.

About 300 miles SW of Hangtown: Engler Brothers Auto Parts on Pico Blvd in Santa Monica, the best dang autoparts store for older vehicles in CA, probably elsewhere.

You could call, speak w/a parts guy that knows what you're talking about, then order the whole enchilada over the phone.

I'm not aware of any kit, FoMoCo never offered one, all the parts were sold individually. The quality of aftermarket autoparts varies wildly these days, cuz most of it comes from China.

If it were mine and I planned on keeping it for awhile, I'd buy what could still be bought from FoMoCo, the rest NOS from dealers/obsolete parts vendors.

It's been several years since browsing for tranny kits, I Bookmarked this site for reference purposes only, not sure if they are still in business. Never purchased from them so not familiar with products, or company. Seem to recall there were few simular companies offering these kits but as I mentioned it has been quite a few years.

Borg Warner T98 4 Speed repair parts and overhaul kits. - Drivetrain.com

If not familiar with what's involved in the tranny rebuild you might want to review the 'how to' article in the 'spec's/articles' forum to determine if it exceeds machanical know how and/or tools required. Anyhow, food for thought.

I answered your other thread, but forgot to put this link in it. They have kits, not sure of the source, but I bet they'd tell you:

Will a T18 trans work as a floating trans in my 63 f100? It has a t98 with a 262 motor now and would like the newer higher geared tranny. Thanks

According to that Novak site, the ratios are almost identical T98 to T18. Maybe you are thinking of the T19?

4th is 1:1 in all these.

The T18 should work. However, very early units used the T98 case--this according to Novak, so don't shoot me if that's wrong. After that, they have the Ford "butterfly" trans to bell pattern. Some transmissions have both sets of holes drilled, so they can bolt to the old "square" pattern I think your trans has.

If it does not have all the holes, you should be able to drill them, as the old pattern is narrower than the new. That might be a bit tedious, and you will need to get it right the first time, so check it close before you buy.

Info on both:

No.

The bolt patterns between the two do not interchange.

The only thing that will fit your bell is the T98.

PTO passenger side:

Note the bolt up pattern is an issue, and drilling to match the old one is not something you can do with a hand drill in the driveway.....

Granny gear is like DuctTape. You always wonder why you have it at hand at all times until you need it, then you thank god that youve been driving with a '3speed'. When I had to pull a 30ft church bus out of 2 feet of mud, I sure as hell didnt wish I had a "real" 4 speed
