Terrible design

Ok so I am having a problem keeping the front license plate bracket on the truck. I lost one and have found it twice laying inside the bumper. I live in Ohio and they require a front plate so I have to have it. I would think Ford could have designed something a little better to secure this bracket to the bumper. It isn't like this is a bicycle, it is a damn truck. Way to go Ford on such a **** poor design.

Ummm, Why are you having trouble ?
Did they not use screws ? if the holes are too big - simple to use a bigger screw or bolt, washer and nut....

I've never had a plate holder give me that much trouble... on ANY make or model...
I guess I'm fortunate enough to have much bigger issues to worry about than a front license plate holder

maybe it was the installer ?!?

I used 1/4 -20 x3/4 screws and just forced them in the bracket holes

yea you would think theyd build stuff that wouldnt fall off,, hahaha, i backed into a concrete light pole today at decent speed and it didnt do any damage, luckily it was right in the middle of the bumper. gave me a good jolt though. the little rangers are tough! hahahahaha

I live in Ohio and I haven't had a front plate on a vehicle in probably 8 years. Put 110k miles on my F-150 without it and never had a mention of it... even when pulled over. I drove that truck weekly to Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland for sales so i dont think it had to do with the area either. It's a truck so I don't think they look for it on them. First thing I took off the F-250 when I got it was the front plate... Take it off and forget it!

I got stopped for no front plate so from then on I keep it there. Guess I will have to figure out a way to fasten it to the bumper

Something is wrong with yours. This doesn't seem to be a commonly reported issue. Seems to me, your options are to screw the license plate into the valance or get a new bracket.

Throw it under the seat and say it fell off if you get stopped again. I seriously doubt you will. Sounds to me like you found the one cop who happened to be looking for it that day.

Stop by a auto body shop, they have plastic rivets just for it.

Texas requires front plates too. Here they will stop you. It gives them a reason to check other things like your DL, insurance, inspection, etc.

I didn't want a front plate on my Vette, but after getting stopped twice I put it on.

Colorado requires it also. I've seen some people that stuff it up in their dash. I dont know if they get away with that, I would doubt it. I was following a State Trooper in my 68 Road Runner on a 65 mph highway and he pulled to the side so I could pass then pulled me over for it. (Road Runner is gone unfortunately, I didnt know I had a investment)

Script,

Sorry to see you are being given grief about this. I've had the same problem. It is not a design I would consider worthy of a Superduty. I lost the front plate and plate holder twice on my 2008. I no longer own the truck but I seem to recall that I was able to zip tie the bracket holder in place to avoid a hat trick.

I had the same problem. Although Indiana doesn't require a front plate, I orginally used the plate bracket to hold/hide my plow wire harness but lost it twice and got tired of paying Ford $20 a pop. What you see below is from my wifes Dodge minivan...I must say that my backyard engineering on this is superior to Fords junk snap on method

After ;looking online I found other articles about this issue. I wonder why Ford hasn't done anything about it? I guess I will see about putting some zipties or fasten it down with screws.
