The Haynes manual says these are not replaceable on a '90 Aerostar 2x that you must replace the whole adjustment arm (not the control arm though). Is this difficult? The van is in Maui, I'm in San Diego, and my son will need to do the work himself. He is somewhat mechanical (he's a genius in his group over there as far as cars go) but any difficulties will slow him down considerably.
The 'adjustment arm' or upper control arm suspension bracket is held on by several very large bolts that also serve to join the front cross member to the frame. It takes large wrenches and muscle to get them off and to re-torque them correctly. He needs to do only one side at a time and to have the front cross member SOLIDLY planted on jack stands. (Use two per side, due to the amount of torque involved.)
Scribe around the base of the bracket before loosening to ensure it goes back is the same position. Likewise, if he will be removing the upper arm to bracket bolts, there are camber spacers behind the bolts that need to be replaced exactly as they were. They may look similar, but each one may impart several degrees difference - so proper accounting for each one is essential.
Replacement bushings can be found at Checker Auto (et.al), but the old and new will need to be pressed out/in. Not difficult if he has access to a press, or a local machine shop can be employed.
Obviously, once completed, an alignment is required. Hope this helps.
