I recently realized that the connection where the hose meets the waste gate on my turbo has rotted off on my 2002 7.3 F350. I have been told many things:
They do not sell just the stock waste gate.
That I would have to buy a new turbo setup.
I have been told they do sell just the waste gate but most suggested a new turbo.
Please help...
I also am interested in either the bd diesel or garrett upgraded turbo. The only mods I have done so far is an afe intake and a silverline turbo-back exhaust.
I think you're talking about the actuator. You can get a Banks Big Head, Clay has them, or or the devise that Diesel Site has, its mechanical. I doubt you can't buy a stock actuator. You certainly don't need a new turbo just because the actuator is bad.
If your considering an upgraded turbo, because of what the dealership has told you, well then ,you were misled. If its something you want to do because...then the above posts havve you covered. For example, mines not rotted off, but i do have the red line plugged onto a T-clamp on the charge side cac boot.
Your rotted tube, from my understanding, will not hurt anything, but give you more boost, since your red line is disabled and plugged off. If you want just a wastegate, so you can run the red line to it, then i'm sure theres some out there/here/ebay, to be had for next to nothing...
It won't hurt anything at all. I would go with the Garret. The BD turbo is just as expensive but still uses a journal bearing like the stocker. The Garret 38R is a ball-bearing turbo. Better spool up and longer life.
