Hi guys here again looking for help, I went to the junk yard and found a new windshield and gasket for my 70 f250 ranger the old one was cracked so I replaced it my self I used a 1/4 inch piece of rope and soapy water to lubricate every thing went fine but now the problem I have is that wen I wash my truck water leaks at the bottom. Water leaks in the grove where the gasket and glass meet any body had this issue before what can I do to fix thanks in advance.
You should have bought new rubber. How long has it been since the swap? Some hot summer sun might help. The rubber is not setting exactly the same. If it's still leaking by end of summer replace the gasket or start applying clear silicone (spearenly of course.)
new rubber is cheap , but i would also use some windshield sealant , (not silicone) the sealant stays sticky never dries this is what ford used for passenger cars .
you put a small bead in gasket before putting gasket on glass then a small bead in groove before you put rope in to install .
oh it's messy stuff so where gloves and don't put too much .
Hi guys the rubber is new so is the glass that is why I bought it. rubber has no dry spots or cracks its nice and playable it was pretty hot when I installed the glass no problem there it went really smooth maybe all I'm missing is the sealant mike is talking about.looks like I will have to start all over again since the auto glass shops don't want to do it because something to do with the glass braking, I think they just want me to buy the glass and gasket from them that is BS thanks jowilker and mike for the advice
it's ok jo , the trucks windshields were installed dry but if he has leaks then he should add the sealant .
i'll post some links today for you on the sealant and bone
I found a nice windshield at pick n pull, I called a mobile glass guy to install it as it was to much for me with having a bad back. Well $60 bucks with sealer. Got a new ford oe rubber gasket. Ford had used some nasty tar little crap that only came off with gas or w-d40 if you got any on you. Sealed good no leaks.
Then got a replacement rear window gasket as needed. So I had my rear window gasket replaced by a little shop next to pick n pull, Notice they did not use applied any sealer, only some type of rubber lube spray. Well it was starting to leak a little dried out cracked. Well it still leaked into the cab when parked on the street but worse then before. The gasket inner part of the gasket seal fills with water and runs down the inside the cab when it's parked on an angle . Well got the leak Stopped with a tube of black RTV sure looks like hell inside on the gasket and window aluminum rail moulding, Yup no sealer leaks for me. Can't fix it right due to having a camper shell on back...Yup got a have sealer.. my 2cents
