Check engine light no power

1995 F 350 2wd I had the check engine light come on and lost power. boost was less than 5 psig. Dropped from 60 to 40 mph. The engine was not missing at all. When I turned it off and restarted it the check engine light was off and it ran like a dream.

I tried to pull any codes off but there were none.

Same thing happened to me a couple times. Then it quit and wouldn't restart. My problem was the IPR replaced it and all is great so far. I would first replace the cps though. It can cause the same thing and is much cheaper.

There are codes stored, the scanner you used probably didn't work with the psd. Be nice to see what they are.

What were you doing at the time this happened? Just driving? Working it hard?

Thanks for the quick replys. What reader would you use for a 95 SPD? I know the OBDII are for 96 and newer and the 95 Ford PSD had OBDII connector.

I just picked up the truck for the shop. I had a broken exhaust bolt on the driver side rear manifold. It was running for about 5 minutes. I was enjoing the lack of a exaust leak crusing about 60 mph. So the motor was still not warmed up yet. I drove for about 5 more miles after the CEl came on and shut it off. I started it back up and the CEL was off and it ran like a dream. I ran it for 15 to 20 miles with no issues.

I would check all of the electrical connections around the engine. IPR plug and nut, ICP plug, CPS plug. Also, all battery cable connections. It's obviously electrical, so either something is failing, or just loosing electrical power.

I had a similar problem with my 97. My son works in a truck shop and said it is a comon problem caused by the IPR. It gets gunk in around the pilot valve which is real small and it will not function. No code either. I pulled the IPR out and apart and sure enough, gunk. I cleaned everything up and it runs like a champ. I found a PDF file with detailed instructions of this procedure on the net. Did the shop get the codes or not?

Broken exhaust bolt didn't throw that code...

Need that code to move forward with the problem...

It did the CEL on the way from the shop after fixing the exhaust leak. No CEL before repair. They are not related.

I will drive it and if I get a CEL I will pull codes before shutting down.

Thanks all for your help. I thinking it the IPR.

Its not the IPR ,, The PCM will not report it .There is junk in it or not , it will not be intermittant.

I'll bet it is a 1316 code ,, get it on a proper scanner , or just replace "all" the Under valve cover harnesses..

Or ,,,

When its running bad , unplug one valve cover plug at a time ,, the one that does not stall the truck (or makes no difference ) , is the bad one

What brand or model would be proper?
The truck has a slight off idle at start up. It's been that way as long as I can remember.

I have had the burnt wires in the valve cover before. it ran like carp. The engine ran good but no power. The engine idles smoothly. Shut off and it restarted and ran like a champ.

I am having similar issues with my 96 and have replaced the cps and IPC still having same issue. No codes. When I turn the key off the CEL goes away and runs fine for a few miles then CEL comes of and no power again. Did you figure out what was causing your problems?

If the cel is coming on, there are codes stored.

These trucks don't like many code readers. They are not fully obdII compliant, there are only a few readers that work, my guess is yours is one that won't. Theres an older snapon one that works, AE with the enhanced ford setup, aeroforce scanguage are actually the only ones I know of that work. There may be a few other real good ones, but I personally don't know.
