My name is Randy and this is my old work, play and above all else a truck I have enjoyed having for 31 years. It is a 1976 F-250 Ranger Camper Special with a 460 stroked to 557 c.i., a C-6 with a trans-cooler and a 4.10 rear-end. It has worked very well pulling my different RV trailers and work tractors over all these years. I am looking forward to posting with you all and enjoying hearing about and seeing your trucks.
Having read about Sean's very nice Excursion "Big Bleu" and what parts and replacements it has taken over it's 161,000 miles on the road. I will tell you what major replacements and parts it has taken to keep "The Cheese Truck" on the road most of that time working pulling 12,000 pounds of a grading tractor and trailer, also 6,500 pounds of a 5th-wheel RV trailer over it's 37 years and 431,000 miles on the road.
Engines: original 460 171,000 miles before replacement. Second 460 195,000 miles before replacement. 557 65,000 miles and counting.
Trans: one C-6 replacement in 1989
Rear-end: one 4.10 LS replacement 1991
Rear leaf-springs: total replacement in 1995
Steering: two steering pumps and a total replacement of all steering components in 1998.
Paint: one total repaint in the original (Chrome Yellow) in 1989.
Also many belts, hoses, and other odds-n-ends over the years.
Fuel: 53,875 gallons of premium fuel.
Welcome to the chapter! I am sure you will like it here. That is one awesome looking truck. Looks brand new. I had a 76 with the 460 in it, and loved it until some kids burned it to the ground with a book of matches
Thank you for the welcome Jim. I had the truck painted in 1989 and the painter just used straight enamel. But he put it on thick and I wax it pretty regularly so it has held up well.
Sorry to hear about your 76.
Randy
Wow over quarter million dollars in fuel (at todays price)
Yikes... and that is not counting the thousands of gallons of diesel fuel for my Ford Tractors for over 25 years. Thank you for the welcome Robert also.
One way to save a ton of money is to keep a truck for over 30 years. Compared to buying a new truck every 4-5 years. Look at all the money you saved in truck payments, and insurance. Even doing the upkeep on it is not expensive compared to constantly making payments.
Great points Jim and she has saved me "a ton of money". I always thought I would have to replace her at some point because she was worn-out but she is still a solid and strong running piece.
It is me that is worn-out.
