not to sound like a d$ck but good luck with that. My 2004 F350 has a tick for three months now, first i thought it was a bad exhaust gasket so i bought new header gaskets and all new studs and replaced them first. But my tick still didnt go away, so then i installed all new plugs, checked the COP's and checked the injectors and guess what i still have the tick! Mine also does it at about 1000RPM and stops around 2500RPM, id rather have broken exhaust studs and spend the money to have them drilled out and replaced and have the tick go away rather then not having problems but still have this dam tick. Its getting annoying when im see someone next to me and i hit the gas and they look they look like what the hell is that noise....?
My 5.4 developed a ticking sound that I was sure was either a sticking lifter or possibly cracked manifold. Turns out it was a precursor of the dreaded blown spark plug. It finally blew last week. After repair, no ticking sounds.
Ive changed plugs passanger side manifold and gasket, it was still ticking, but i have found just of late that putting the truck to stock settings with the cortex superchip it doesnt tick if at all anymore.... kinda confused
ive been trying for three months to fix the same type of tick. Ive so far added new exhaust studs on both sides, new header gaskets on both sides, new y-pipe to cat exhaust gasket, 8 new spark plugs. For some odd reason mine is quiet in Park or Neutral but ticks when in reverse or Drive, so now i think it loose TQ bolts? I would say check the exhaust but you replaced that already, your truck does have cam phasers and they go bad all the time on the newer three valve motors. it goes away because the superchip changes the timing and makes the phasers change the degree, if they are bad thats whats causing your ticking
