I have a 77 F100 w/ a fogged windshield. Just bought a 79 F150 parts truck w/ a nearly new windshield. The gasket is still pliable. I assume I can cut the gasket to remove the windshield and have it installed. Is there a way to save the gasket? It has the thin chrome trim, which I'd also like to reuse. I did install a sliding window in my truck w/o too much trouble. Is the windshield at all similar? Or is it glued in on these trucks? Is installation something that can be done myself or best to have it done?

1977 F100/350: There are two different types of windshield mouldings, two different types of windshield weatherstrips used with mouldings. The serial number is the last 6 digits of the VIN.
Before serial number O80,001: There are 6 stainless steel w/shield reveal mouldings, 2 joint clips. The mouldings fit into a grove in the w/strip (D3TZ-1003110-E).
From serial number O80,001 (and 1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco). The windshield reveal moulding is flexible plastic chrome. This moulding glues to the weatherstrip (D7TZ-1003110-B).
When bought at the parts counter (reproduction is the same), the flexible plastic chrome moulding (D7TZ-1003148-A) came with an adhesive backing.
This moulding also came as a straight piece (coiled up in a package) that was 72 3/4" long, had to be cut to fit and bent around the corners.
I will have to look alittle closer. Thought they were the same style trim. Are the windshields themselves all the same or is it just the gasket/trim that changes?

The windshields (clear or tinted) are the same: 1967/79 F100/750 & 1978/79 Bronco.
1967/72 use different weatherstrips, because the 4 corners have a different shape than 1973/79 / 1973/79: There are three different weatherstrips:
1973/79: Without mouldings (D3TZ-1003110-F) / 1973/76, some 1977's: With stainless steel mouldings (D3TZ-1003110-E) / Some 1977's & 1978/79: With flexible chrome plastic moulding (D7TZ-1003110-B).
my cousin had A1 or one of those big window installers put a new windshield in his 75 and I think he said it was right around 150 to have a new one with the shade on top installed. We are in sw Wisconsin so should be around the same anywhere in the state. Just thought I would let ya know incase you didnt want to go through the hassle.
I figured that I would have a new one installed, but just bought this parts truck with a really nice windshield in it. Was told "it only has 400 miles on it". Seemed odd thing to say about a windshield, but figure I might as well use it if I can. Probably won't take it out til I get ready to paint the truck.
I checked both trucks and from what I can tell, both have the thin chrome trim that presses into the gasket w/ separate corner pieces. Appears to be the same style gasket. Can the gasket be saved or not? Apparently it's rather new.

Take another look-see.
There are no separate corner pieces with either the stainless steel or flexible plastic chrome reveal mouldings.
Stainless steel, 6 mouldings, 2 joint clips: Upper right - joint clip - upper left / Lower right - joint clip - lower left / right vertical & left vertical.
Weatherstrip has a groove in it for these mouldings.
Flexible plastic chrome moulding: One piece assembly, glues to the weatherstrip.
As original, while 1977's could have either type of mouldings, 1978/79's only came with the flexible plastic chrome moulding.
But who knows what parts could have been swapped around since these trucks are over 30 years old.
I will look better. The 79 was replaced not to long ago. I am thinking my 77 might be the original glass as most of the paint is original. But who knows. Got busy last night testing the "new" Ford am fm 8 track that I'm going to install. The other am/fm/8 track/cb quit playing tapes the other day. The stereo out of the 79 works great, but I see I'm going to have to notch the bezel for this one. Not sure what it came out of, but it's a 4 speaker system. Still trying to figure out why there are 5 speaker wires out the back. Thanks again for the information.
If you try to get the windshield out with the rubber you will break the windshield 99.9% of the time...I have done many of these trucks and have broke a few if you want to reuse it cut the rubber and buy a new rubber its like 50.00 bucks.
If it has good rubber chrome just buy one with the channel, but if its going bad finding replacement rubber chrome is difficult LMC used to have it buts its expensive stuff.... I go with the plain unless its a complete resto to original.
To reinstall....Place rubber on the windshield with a few pieces of masking tape just to hold it from falling off....Then youll need a small 1/4" rope thats really flexible placed into the rubber lip.....Then place centered in hole then work from say passenger side to drivers side bottom.....pulling the lip into the cab all the way around some dish soap like dawn will help lube it a little and she'll pop right in but dont force it....Its really easy and if it leaks there is a liquid the glass shop has that will seal it up.
The thing with a used gasket is its formed to the flaws of the other truck so it will most likely leak.

Carpenter reproduced the flexible plastic chrome w/shield moulding, its weatherstrip. The weatherstrip w/the groove in it used with the stainless steel reveal mouldings and the weatherstrip used without mouldings.
DC's price for all these w/strips is $110.00 each, but all are made in the USA, not China.
Just looked alittle closer. Both trucks have chromed plastic trim that pushes down into a channel. The corner pieces are a metal (like stainless) The trim is good on the parts truck so I'll try to save it along w/ the windshield.
