trailer harness

Hey guys, I have a 1999 f350 7.3l and I have a major trailer wiring harness issue. I have no idea what in the hell the guy who put the aftermarket pigtail hook up was thinking, when the previous owner had it done. Im not going to go into detail but all I have to say is there is boat wire used to hook it up! I know this because it says it on the wire. I found this because I wanted to install an LED light strand inbetween the tail gate and bumper, I dont even want it on there any more I just want my truck fixed, So I wanted to know what replacing the entire trailer wiring harness from the fuse box back to the bumper entails and a roundabout of what it would cost to buy it from the dealer, Im really goin to need help here guys. Thanks in advance, steve.

Running from box under the hood back to the bed is not going to be easy. Do you still have good wires behind the cabin?

It is hard for me to imagine an installation in which someone went all the way to the fuse box. Surely there must be a splice point aft. Given the cost of just the rearmost section including the seven pin to the first connector was right at $200 from the dealer. From there all the way to the fuse box? Man, I bet some serious change!

Well I can live with just replacing the rear section as that is all that's botched. Where does it break from the bumper up towards the cab because I will just replace that then. If I don't have to replace the whole harness I won't I just need to replace the whole rear section and thought it was all one part

If you take a look underneath, you will see the snap together connections for the sections. As I recall, on my PSD, the seven pin plug to the first connector was about 18" long. When I got my truck the previous owner had towed a fifth wheel and used quick connects to add a pigtail for a second seven pin in the bed of the truck. The connectors had corroded and my seven pin was erratic. I had cobbled up work, so I got a new section and then added a seven pin in the bed correctly.
