Question Second thoughts on fuel pump installation

Just wanted to get your guy's input on whether or not I've created my own F150 bomb!! Installed a fuel pump over the weekend, with all the usual quirks, but the fuel pump was the type where you use the old hardware bracket(float) and outlet metal tubes, and splice in the new wiring for the new pump. They supplied the connectors where you just splice into the red/black wires, and reattach the float connector. Everything went fine, pump is working great. But on looking back on that red/black splice, should I have used maybe a heat shrink tube or some other type of connector bond to maybe keep the wires from coming undone? I'm sure the connection is good, but for how long? I don't do alot of off roading, but these local roads aren't the smoothest either and am just wondering over time will I have a ka-bloo-e spark in the tank if those wire's do seperate?? Thanks for any suggestions or comments! Les M.

In the gas tank, I always recommend soldering and heat shrink wrapping the wires. What kind of connector did they supply, a scotch-lock(has two holes that go through, and a metal blade that pierces the insulation when you flip the lid closed) or butt connectors?

Yep, butt connectors. Been nice if they had mentioned/suggested that in the instructions. Guess I'll drop it back down this weekend and fix it correctly.

The chance of explosion is small, but it is still there. What I do is put vacuum line over the connections and heat shrink over that. I hate the idea of connections in a fuel vapor environment...
