Ran over a board, Ex is DOA.....

Ran over a strip of plywood today which got shoved up into my exhaust. Pushed it up far enough to crack the exhaust pipe 1/2 way though and shoved the sensor that is between the catalytic converter and the muffler into the frame hard enough to break off a few wires on it.

Now the truck will start and idle fine, but the check engine light came on and it would barely move, missing and caughing. I disconnected the battery for a sec then tried again. Now the OD light is flashing and I still have no power and stuttering. I parked it there for the night.

Is the sensor between the muffler and catalytic converter an O2 sensor? Seems that's pretty far back, no? Any ideas on whether the broken lead wires to it are having any effect on the transmission? I looked and looked under the truck and could find no issues around the tranny whatsoever, no leaking fluid, no disconnected sensors, etc.

Is the exhaust pipe squished? Yes that is a o2 sensor, it'll have to be replaced. If the exhaust has a crushed section it will need to be fixed then all should be good.

Exhaust pipe isn't squished, but it is split in half and will have to have a new section welded in. So you think the O2 sensor would cause my transmission issue?

It shouldn't. That o2 sensor is just the nanny sensor to ensure the catalyst is doin' its job. It makes no changes to the engine's operation at all.

Something else musta got damaged. Can you pull the code that is causing the CEL to light?

Look again with a flashlight for any other wires etc that got damaged. O2 sensor just senses for proper gas ratios in pipe. Your trans will be OK. Make sure no wires are shorting out.

First off I didn't know the '04 models had sensors after the CAT... second off they shouldn't matter, the fuel mix is controlled by the sensors that are upstream of the CAT

Well I got it solved..mostly. I put a new O2 sensor in it this morning from Advanced Auto (had it in stock and was $25 less than dealer), but that didn't solve a thing.

Got to thinking that the smashed wires must have ground out and blown a fuse so start looking and sure enough fuse 23 for the ECM was blown. New fuse and it solved every issue but the engine light on the dash, which the book says is for emissions.

Trip to the muffler shop for a bit of creative welding to the cracked exhaust pipe ($40, more than reasonable) and she's not leaking anymore. He mentioned that I'd need to reset the computer to get rid of the engine light, and he did not have the software to do that.

Gonna try unhooking the battery for a bit to see if that will reset that light, other than that anyone have any suggestions or do I need to get it back to the dealer?

you should be able to buy a code reader for the price of a dealer visit. I have OBDCON USB interface for my laptop, that can clear codes, it cost me $80 with the software. http://www.obdcom.com/buy-obd.htm

Or go to a parts store where they let you use their scanner, doesn't take anything special to clear codes.

Side note, the sensors down stream of the CAT have only one purpose, they just make sure your CAT is working. The sensors before the CAT control the fuel mix. The fact that the later models have sensors downstream of the CAT is news to me. I am really glad that my 2000 doesn't have them, because my CAT needs to go.

Yea that should work, I can't guarantee it because I don't have one. What I was saying is that for something as simple as clearing codes any scanner should do it.

The dealer can do special things like get your door code, but you don't need them for the basics.

Some shops will clear a code for free for goodwill, call around. Trans shops too.
