Extended Warrenty

I have a 08 450 with 35000 miles. The powerchrain warrenty expires this Sept. I am torn on purchasing an extended warrenty from Ford. I purchased it new, and have not had a single issue with it. Best truck that I have ever drivin.

The most I can get is 48 mo/36000 miles. The powerchrain is $1375.00 and premium $1900.00. Is there a cheaper place to buy it online ? The next two years a would not drive more than 18000 miles. Do you think it would be worth it ?

Thanks, Mike

i personally don't think I'd bother with it. But be sure to check everything out first. If you actually find something then maybe.

If you do a lot of in town driving I would definitely get the extended warranty from ford due to the fact these motors do not like in town driving (6.4L is a highway motor) unless the Enviromental Equipment is deleted. From the low mileage numbers you said you have I would guess you either only use it to tow or its a city truck.

It is used to tow a 16,000# 5th wheel. The only city driving is when we are set up at an RV park exploring.

We will be leaving soon on a 11,000 mile trip from WA to New England states, and then to Florida and home.

I'm pretty much asking myself the same question, warranty/no warranty. I too have not had any issues with my truck and follow the maintenance schedule religiously. But, I'm not really sure I'm going to be keeping the truck long enough to get full time advantage ( I usually buy something really nice for my vehicles and then sell them!). Wish I had a crystal ball.

I just bought a 2008 F350 to tow a 5th wheel camper with. It has 103000 miles. One look under the hood and I called warranty direct for an extended warranty. Being my first diesel it scared the hell out of me. I paid $1750.00 and it will go until 203000 miles or 5 years. It covers everysingle internal lubricated part in the motor, transmission, and drive axels as well as the turbo charger and a huge list of other components. I thought a small price for piece of mind.

Remember that an extended warranty is simply an insurance policy against your truck breaking down. They're great if you can't afford the financial disaster that would happen if something big breaks, but statistically they're a losing bet. That's why they sell them...to make money.

So if you can swing a worst-case $15,000 for an engine or fuel system replacement then you are typically best off forgetting the warranty and enjoying your truck. If such a loss would be devastating then the warranty would be a good investment in your financial security. Pick whichever applies and enjoy your truck!

Even with a warranty there's no guarantee a fuel system replacement would be covered if the failure was a result of water contamination. This is why having a auto insurance Co. that covers a failure like this is a plus.

I took out an extended warranty on my truck. Maybe I'll need it, maybe I won't, but ain't taking a chance.
My buddy didn't take one out when his regular warranty expired. 9 months ago, he had to cough up $6800 in repairs. "I shoulda taken the ext warranty when I had the chance" he said.

I have the Premium ESP and I just got my 08 back from the Dealer. I had blown the front dust boots. $100 bucks and I was gone with a rental for 2 days as part of the deal. The dust boot replacement would have been a $500 costs to me if I had not had the extended warranty. I had the clear plastic replaced in my dash where the speedo and tack are located, that was a $400 replacement, $100 bucks and a rental for 2 days. So over the past month I have had $900 worth of warranty work done for $200 bucks and 4 days of car rental. The ESP cost me $1800 so far I am happy with the cost. I do agree with Crazy001 is that normally it is a waste of money. And if I dont use it again, I have wasted some money but I do have the peice of mind that most things will be covered.

ALL AFTERMARKET WARRANTIES ARE JUNK IMHO

The lesser Ford plans only cover a handfull of components, that usually
Dont give problems.

Stay Far away from Aftermarket warranties Guys.

I would look at purchasing a Ford Diesel Motor Warranty 7 years or 200,000 miles it will cover 23 major engine componets. I think this can be purchased within 36,000 miles if you purchase this after the truck gets above 36,000 miles you can then only get coverage for 13 major engine componets.
