I was offered this beautiful 96 f350 for $500 but another $125 to my house. He said he will hold it for me. His dad bought it new but he blew it up. Has 7.3 in it. Does anybody know anything about the 7.3. Idk much about it or whether i should buy a new crate engine which will probly cost $3000 or so probly more or have it professionaly rebiult for about $5000 or find a used one for probly $1500. Can anybody school me on the 7.3. Im probly gonna buy the truck anyhow because thats a lot of truck for $625. Thanks

Buy it.
The trans and front axle is well worth the price.
Depending on what happened is how much it will cost.
Riffraff has a sweet deal on factory ford oem rebuild kits for like $1200.
If the block is still good anyway.
If a rod blew out the side then find one in the junkyard. Rebuild it.
Or just buy a running one from a van or truck and drop it in.
Awesome deal.
Go to the specific diesel section and you'll get lots of info.
Thats a good looking truck. In 1007, I purchased a 93 F350 w/custom built bed,( see truckntrackman garage, Beastie Boy). The truck is in xlnt condition w/a strong 7.3, and not the slightest hint of an oil leak. The entire body and bed have no scratches dings dents or rust. It was surplus from the company I worked for, and I won the high bid at $700. The 7.3 is a workhorse designed for medium duty trucks. Don't let it get away.

Yours is an IDI, the one he's looking at is a Powerstroke...
what is the difference between an IDI and powerstroke. i know IDI is international made and powerstroke is ford made but other that that i dont know. do these got turbos on them or are they N/A they came both didnt they all i know is i put an ad on cl looking for scrap fords or good trucks to fix up and he texted me saying he blew it up one night being stupid his da bought it new it has 217000 on it and auto. it had a bullydog system on it but he said hes keeping it he said he wants it gone because he doesnt want to toy with and told me to make an offer so i said i only have $500 right now asked if i had anthing to trade and he said i can take the 500 and another $125 to brong it to me so i asked if he would hold it for a couple weeks till i get the rest of the money and he said he would hide it out behind his garage for me. i cant wait i really do want to fix it and drive it around has good clean title. i am deffinitally buying it i hope.
The idi and powerstroke are 2 totally different engines.
International/navastar made all of the ford pickup diesel engines up untill 2011. Ford now makes their own diesel.
As for a turbo EVERY powerstroke came turboed
I personally think the guy is blowing smoke up you but. No way would someone be DUMB enough to sell that truck foe under 2000. Be careful you are NOT being scammed.
If you do get the truck and want to change the wheels I would be happy to buy those wheels off of you. Those are my favorite wheels available for these trucks and you don't see near as many 8 lug wheels as you do 6 lug wheels in that style.
Boonville ny. I m sure its not a scam he was logic about everything and answered my questions like he knew what he was talking about so i do believe hes serios

What do you mean? almost every 3/4 or 1 ton ford came out with those wheels....and not a single ford EVER came out with those rims in 6 lug pattern......
I think its a shady deal also. its dang near inpossible to blow up a PSD being stupid, although anything is possible with a Bully Dog programer.... be sure to let us know what it does when you get it as its prolly something realy stupid and simple to fix and the seller is just a moron.
You bet I,m serious. I have been around Ford trucks since the late sixties. In 93 the powerstroke was a turbo option on the na engine. They ARE the same engine. I have worked on them both. After about 96, turbos became standard because without them, the engine could'nt pass opaque smoke emissions under load. As for my truck, I have the bill of sale from my company as proof as sale cost. Another example is a class 8 3 axle tractor w/ cummins NTC 350 and RTO9513. Was'nt real pretty, but ran great for $2500. Once fully depreciated, the company would get rid of them for the highest offer by an employee. This is no longer the case, as all vehicles are now leased. The 6.9 & 7.3 na and turbos (powerstrokes) are all xlnt engines.

psd's did'nt come out until 94.5 my.94.5 to current are all turbo'ed.the idi's were available with turbo's,it was an option but an aftermarket turbo(hypermax)
Ok. Not a diesel expert, but I thought the difference between the 7.3 IDI and 7.3 PSD was head bolts. I thought the 7.3 IDI turbo was bad for blowing head gaskets.
And the 7.3 IDI turbo was from 93-94.5, then 94.5 the PSD came out
Also, if you guy is serious buy it. Buy it, and buy it now. Put you a new 7.3 in, and drive it. You can get 18 mpg city out of the 7.3 pretty easy from what I have read.
Nothing is the same between the IDI 7.3, and the PSD 7.3 except for the cubic inch size just happens to be 444 for both of them. But yes, in 94.5 the PSD replaced the IDI motor.
For $625, you could scrap the truck and make money. Hard to go wrong there. If the front axle is good, that alone is worth a grand. Good find.
