Tranny Troubles
I have a 1997 F 150 XL extended cab w/ a 4.2L, automatic transmission. i was driving along and then had to stop short because someone cut me off. when i went to push the throttle again the engine drove fine until it went for third gear..then nothing, just revving of the motor. i am very frustrated with this problem because i need this truck to work and i have to ride with a co worker everyday!!!!

Hi ghiradelli777 and welcome to FTE 
If you scroll a ways further down on the main forum page you'll find a transmission forum. There are some very knowledgable people in there such as Mark Kovalsky who is a Ford transmission engineer. Hopefully between there and here you'll find some good answers. I dont work on many transmissions so I'll try to leave this for guys that do
