Nice ride quarkdude! Are these trucks hard to find in your area in similar condition? Have fun!
Hello '79Fordpilot,
Well, there are a bunch of Fords here in New Mexico but the F100 is not seen as much. It's pretty much F150, F250's around here. Pretty much the ugly trucks here are not really rusted out - the dry climate makes it nice for that. I just checked craigslist and there are about 8 1978 trucks here right now.
Thanks, quarkdude

Hello all,
Just found this forum and wanted to share that I own a 1978 Ford F100 Ranger/Explorer. It has the Factory 302 v-8, Manual everything - (no power options), Still has the factory original stripes kit on it - though very weather beaten. It's sort of the orange'ish Red color. Short bed. And 3 on the tree manual transmission. Just seeing what you guys think of what sounds to be a sort of rare truck I guess. I have pictures, just have to wait until I get home to post them up here.
Here are some pics of the truck, just took them today.
Tell me what you think. She's no beauty, but she starts every single time in the summer or the winter. Just a work truck for now.
Not sure if this thread is still active but going to try. This is almost the exact same truck my father bought back in 1980. We had the truck for a very long time and became quite attached to it. I recently asked my mother if it was still around and she told me it probably went to be crushed. I have been looking for this truck (color and model) for a long time now - they seem pretty rare to me. Do you still have this?
Nice looking truck. Give a good wash to get all the dirt and light mold off. Then use meguiars ultimate compound. Do it by hand, you should be able to restore some luster back into the original paint until you are ready to paint. I tried it on my fender just to see and it brought back most of the shine.
Wow! When the paint is fresh and the truck all cleaned up, that does look like a rare beast for sure. Great find on the pictures. I wish I still had it, but the money I got from the sell of that one went to buy my grandparents truck, the 1993xlt Supercab 4x4 that I drive now.

Thanks for the paint restore info '78f350. I unfortunately sold it last year to buy a 1993 F-150xlt supercab 4x4.

This is basically the exact same truck as what my parents had when I was growing up only the roof was white and it was automatic. Do you still have this truck? I think the 78 "Ranger - F100 - Explorer is super rare!
