Well i am thinking this old truck is ready for a rebuild unless you all have a better thought going through 2 quarts every 500 miles very minor leaks at valve covers chaged out cdr valve checked and tested new cdr seems fine acourding t test old truck still runs good but thinking this could be do to the oil burning what do you all think. It now has 295,450
Proper procedure is have the engine warm (operating temp), turn off and wait 10-15 minutes for the oil to drip down to the pan. Then check the level.
The line on the dipstick means two quarts low, but it doesn't mean you have to top it off all the time. If kept at the upper end of the dipstick, the oil tends to burn off quicker.
can you post the symptoms of the truck?
like when you first start it,does she blow out a lot of blue smoke,or do you get more blue smoke when your coming onto her up a hill?
did you do a compression test yet? if so,what are the results?
could just be time to freshen up the heads depending on whats happening.she has gone about the length of 3 460's,so it could be time to freshen up the whole works lol.
