Well I have had my f-250 for 2 years now and racked up the miles to 318k and she is starting to show her age (cab corners, doors, bed rust) so i am contemplating buying a newer one. The one that I found that I really like is an 08 F-350 CCLB 6.4L 4x4 with 67,400 miles on it. I cant seem to pull the trigger, I know I can afford it but the 7.3L just runs so well it is hard to give up. Looking for some advice from my fellow 7.3L owners as to what you would do. Current truck is an ext cab long bed 4x4, I want the crew cab because of the added space and the long bed so i can keep my tool box and still be able to haul things in the bed (4 wheeler and such) but I have heard mixed feelings about the 6.4L, some say its a power house with a tune and delete and some say its not a good motor. I would keep it stock for now until I build funds back up and it wouldn't get driven too terribly much because I have other vehicles I can drive. What are your thoughts? Oh and the 7.3l was paid for in cash so no car note, new one I would have to take out a loan for because of upgrades around the house.
I would spend my time looking for a 99-03 crew cab like you want. You can sell or swap your paid for truck for what you find. You should not have much payment/non at all and then you will still be able to enjoy wrenching on a reliable truck....JMHO.
You can think about swapping your mods over to the crew cab as well.
I am keeping my eye open for a 97 OBS.I had one and sold it and would like another one.I will keep the 02 as well.
if it were me, well acutally what im planning is a 6.7 when they come down in price for used ones cus there incredible and not as much bad said about em yet

I have thought about the 6.7L because I love the interior and have looked at a couple of them but I just cant justify the cost of them yet. The one I am looking at is 32k and it is a lariat. The 11s are at like 45k for a comparable truck and the 12s are in the 50s (although I have seen some new ones for the 47k range) I am just not comfortable spending that much coin on a truck cause that is the cost of the HUGE deck I want to put on the house and part of the kitchen. I am trying to walk out under 30k with the truck and then I have mine to trade or sell out right. I have looked at some older ones but I am just bored with mine, the interior was nice in the day but they are definitely dated.
im with ya on justifying the cost of a 6.7 now but a 6.0 lasted 5 perduction years and a 6.4 lasted 3 and think a 6.7 has lasted 2 so far and no talk of new one to replace i would hold out and find differnt 7.3 or keep yours untill lower 6.7 prices i think it will be worth it. plus from what i gathered the 6.7 has best fuel mileage in stock form between the 6.4 and 6.0 and it, im just one of those guys that is weary of things that dont last wether they had to cus of emissions or not just doesnt look good to me. about 6 months ago i almost bit the bullet with 6.4 but then decided just to hold out for 6.7 in couple years
that is possibly what will happen, I just look around upon occasion on auto trader and found a truck that I like. I have a couple of options on what to do right now (including buying a second house) but its hard to not get a newer vehicle (the 00 F-250 is my newest). I am not overly concerned with fuel mileage but I do look at it.
