89 F-250 5.8L Issues

I recently purchased this truck after it sat for almost 3 years, after reconditioning it, i drove about 200 miles and on the random it started backfiring and sputtering while trying to accelerate, it only happens after the truck warms up. i have replaced the coil, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, ignition module, and fuel filter. it still does it, i have a feeling its the fuel pump but i hope otherwise. has anybody encountered something like this before? any help would be appreciated.

Did you try running a self test with the EEC? That can give you clues as to what's wrong.

But one thing your symptoms point to is a throttle position sensor. It is just a potentiometer, and you can test it with a VOM. Pull off its connector to measure across a couple of the pins as your open and close the throttle, and look for smooth changes in resistance. You may have to try a couple of pin pairs to get the right pair.

I went ahead and replaced the TPS tonight along with both fuel pumps just so i wouldnt have to do it for a while. Now the problem has gotten worse. i am now leaking antifreeze from the 3/8" hose that runs to from the bottom of the TB to the "intake valley".. any reason this should happen?
Also, it wont idle cleanly and dies. im out of ideas other than wires or i didnt get the spark plug gap correct? does that sound like something that can also cause these issues? Im new to the TB Fords.

Thanks Jordan

Pull the codes and check fuel pressure.

That 3/8" coolant line is for cooling the EGR valve. If it's leaking from the hose, I would check the hose for cracking, or tightness of the clamp.

Check to see if you have any vacuum leaks. Look at the vacuum line that goes into the fuel pressure regulator to see if it's got fuel in it. If so, the regulator is leaking fuel into the vacuum line.

I had overheating problems and hessitation when trying to accelerate. My heater hoses were bad and I replaced them. The truck never overheated again. The truck was running better cold then warmed up.

What is the condition of the rubber hoses under your hood? Inspect, replace if necessary.
