I thought this was going to be an easy solution to my problem. Planning on putting a 98 4.0 Explorer engine in my wife's 97 4.0 Explorer. Both 4x4, same engines. I have both trucks here. I got the 98 engine pulled and noticed that the engine wiring harness is different between the two. The yellow and green/red wires to the alternator come out of the engine harness on the 98, they come up the main alternator power wire on the 97, up the front of the block behind the ac/power steering pump bracket. So I looked at the main harness junction block, they are completely different as far as pin numbers and locations.
I am lost. It seems I need to tear the engines apart to swap harnesses, run the 97 harness on the 98 engine? Problem with that, is I no longer have the 97 ECU, I was planning on using the 98 ECU. Will all the 97 stuff work with the 98 ECU? Help.
