Hedman Headers Feedback

Hey all,

I have a 78 F250 with a 460 and I am looking to buy the Hedman Headers (89146 is the model number). This is 2 wheel drive truck with no lift so I'm looking at chassis exit headers.

I'm also looking to purchase the stage 8 fastner and a better gasket if it would be recommended over the one that comes with the headers.

Has anyone used Hedman Headers and if so do you have any feedback on them good bad or otherwise?

I have the Hedman headers - #89140 on my 75 F250 2WD w/460 - had them on since Nov/Dec of last year. So far I love them. I did take them in to have them ceramic coated (inside and out) to make sure they will last for many years.

Install was easy - very good fit. Mine exit out inside the chassis rails and then I had a custom exhaust installed with the pipes bent under the rails, ran down between the frame and body and exit in front of the rear wheels.

Enjoy 'em.

I have Hedmann Headers on my truck as well, 1976 F250 Supercab with 460. They were installed in 1978 and I am finally having to replace them as they are leaking between the pipe and the flanges. The metal has just gotten too thin. I wish I could weld the cracks up, but I don't think they are thick enough. Great durability and decent performance.

Well, you will be happy to know, mine were installed and spent their life in the Greater Vancouver area, so you should be good to go, LOL.

Hedman in the 60's/70's an excellent product and considered one of the top mfg's with Hooker....they were built in Culver City, Ca until a few years ago. Beginning in the late 80's Hedman quality began declining & today, they are considered an "inexpensive Header", meaning, you get what you pay for. In general, the headplate should be at least 3/8" (1/2" is best), tubing should be at least 16 gauge (14 is best).....otherwise leaks and burnthough are going to be a problem as well as the longetivity of the headers.

Hmmmmmm..... interesting. Maybe I should take the time to repair my headers. They may be better quality than whats available today.

Great information and overview of the situation.

Thanks for the feedback Beechkid. I ordered the headers a couple of weeks ago so no going back for me now but at least others will know going forward.
