I got an extra $500 from car max for my escalade than the Ford dealer would pay. They actually recommended car max because they have a huge network to satisfy demand.
If I would have got a bid of $500 higher on my Escalade I would have lost over $500 in the end. We get trade in credit towards sales tax on the new purchase. I got $18,800 for mine and take that by 5.5% sales tax that saves about $1034. Deduct the $500 more if carmax would have given me. Still a better deal at my Ford Store.
I just bought mine last month. I too take the route of new vehicle price haggling first then work the trade. With such desirable vehicle to sell you would probably be better off selling outright. I had my 2000 F-350 to trade in. Best I got with them was 6k. Sold it for 8k in a week off craigslist. If I was your typical slimy used car salesman I could have gotten more.

If u can, which not anyone is able to do. But anyone can join the EAA and get xplan
Which by the way is still a better discount than what the others guys give there own people, since I can buy from all three at employee price between mine and my wifes family, not that I even considered anything other than a Ford truck.
