Upper Idler Pulley... Resolved...

Yeah. I just replaced my upper idler pulley. The smooth one that sits over by the alternator. Anyway, I just replaced it with a brand new Motorcraft and it's smoking when it runs. The pulley appears to be rubbing on the little inside shield thing. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

I'm pretty frustrated because I'm sorting through my whole coolant thing and really don't want this problem. I'm at the point where I'm getting it running after a bunch of down time. Please help. Thanks in advance.

It seems like i had to put a washer on the back side of that pully when i replaced mine. I got mine from orileys. It is still working after 4 years or so.

I just put a Gates from O'Reilly's on there. No issues anymore. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm a little angry that the Motocraft wasn't wanting to work. It seems like something is missing that would keep the inside shield from contacting the pulley. Perhaps a washer like Gabe mentioned. Either way, it was worth buying another one to me so that I don't have to mess with it. The Motorcraft belt I got was too long also, but that one could have been my fault. I guess I ordered the wrong one, but whatever. I just used a Gates belt that went on with no problems. Whatever, it's all working now.
