2003 f150 p1299 code
We have a 2003 f150 Triton <14300> Went into fail-safe after the temp guage pegged. Changed out the OEM thermostat. Checked code p1299, false overheat. After changing the thermo, it ran fine for about a week, then it did the same thing. What do I need to look at next? Temp sending unit? Senor on back of the cylinder head? Stumped...new to form. Thanks for any help. Rob

Radiator and a/c fins not plugged; fan clutch working when engine hot; defective water pump. I'm thinking fan clutch. Some water pump impellers corrode but I don't think it's common to these engines. Just some suggestions.

Radiator Cap. That is what fixed my problem. Wasn't holding any pressure at all. I put a 12 PSI cap instead of the stock (think stock is 16 or 18 PSI). I also did a flush and replaced the thermostat (194 degree) at same time since I was in there anyway and it was due. I was really **** about bleeding the sytem of air as well. I prefilled the blocked thru the thermostat hole, and prefilled the radiator thru the upper hose connection. ran the sytem without pressure for 15 minutes and slowly squeezing/releasing the upper hose to work out air. No problems since then.
