I got the task of replacing my father in laws stc fitting and standpipes/dummy plugs over the weekend and into today. Got everything back together but have an exhaust leak where the y pipe comes into the turbo but thats not my big problem. I knew it would take a little getting it to start the first time since there would be air in the system. Now it finally built up and busted off fine, idled smooth, everything aok except for the exhaust leak. Killed the engine to reposition clamps and then tried to crank again to see if it was fixed, again it took forever for it to buid up high oil pressure to start. Scanguage readings looked good at the icv and ipr but pressure is taking forever. Everytime it is cranked it takes probably 20-30 seconds to start. Is it because there is still air in the system? I dont remember mine doing that but then again when I cranked mine for the first time after my install I went driving. His truck is just idling for a minute or so checking out the exhaust leak. Hes asking questions about the starting and I dont know what to tell him. He was needing the truck in the morning so Im gonna tear back into it tonight if I have to. Any ideas.
It will need to be driven doing a few high load, wide open throttle runs with it for at least 20 miles if not more, to prime the high pressure oil system back up to normal. Deal with your exhaust leak issue first, then take it for a good half hour drive the way I've described and it'll be all good.
Thanks for the quick reply. I hope that is all that is wrong. I blowed the soot out of mine right after I changed it and I had the same exhaust leak but it wasnt as bad, I took mine for a spin so that my dad could hear the leak but he never could so I guess thats why I didnt ever notice it hard starting after that. I am fixing to sit down to supper finally, got to go look at an Excursion that my wife is drooling over that is parked down the road then Im gonna start trying to fix the exhaust and hopefully give it a drive later.
Mine did the same. Took 25 or so seconds to fire off the first few time of only short idle time. Once I fired it off an drive it around for about a hour or so it cranked fine after that.

Sorry for off topic, did you take a look at the Excursion? Year, Model, Engine type? Price
Yeah we looked at it, havent driven it or anything just looked at the exterior but could see the inside pretty well. My wife has been communicating with the owners wife. It is a 2001 Limited V10 2wd with 166000 on the o.d. They are asking $5500 for it. The body and paint are in great shape just a couple minor scratches. Its black with the tan color at the bottom. Tires are in fairly good shape, probably good for a year or so based on the amount of miles my wife drives. Best I could tell by the seats, the leather isnt cracked on the driver and passenger seats and the middle and third row doesnt even look like they have been sat on. Also I was thinking that they had leaf spring front ends until 2005 or so but this one has coil springs so either I misread somewhere about Excursion suspensions or it has been upgraded. I think it is a good price. Keeping fingers crossed that she gets it.
