My kids were always complaining about no being able to see down the road. I took two lengths of 1x2 square tubing, 2 M8x1.25x80 bolts and raised the rear bench on my 01 crew cab truck. Drill through the 1x2 the long way, put it between the mount bracket and the seat and secure with the M8 bolts. Raises the seat 2 inches, adds that much under the seat (more storage) and doesn't interfere with view out the back window. Neat solution for my needs.
The mod leaves about 4 inches headroom for my tallest adult son (6'2") when he is sitting up straight. Legroom is not affected because the seat change is vertical. I originally had the mod designed for 3in forward and 2in up. I didn't like the loss of legroom, so it is just 2in up.
I now need to design under seat storage trays for the truck.
That's a pretty good idea. Especially since there is still headroom for adults. Storage trays is another good idea. I carry lots of stuff that would fit lots better with the seat up higher. Let us know what you come up with for storage cases. Reps sent.
Probably going to do cardboard for a while until I get the pattern adapted. Then looking at 16Ga bend and weld covered (inside) in felt to reduce noise. We'll see.
My back seat does fold (halfway) down. The higher seat doesn't affect that function.
I am considering making the seat 2 MORE inches higher (total of 4in), but that is the future.
I am actually thinking about finding (building / designing) a fold up seat mount for the base to put into this mod. The fold up seat mount is from a newer truck than I have if I buy one.
