There was a "high mileage king" thread in the straight six forum last year, many people were 300k+ and two were 450k and 500k miles on their engine. Are you saying you had that car for 190 and 200k miles and raced it all of those miles? Or did you buy it used and only race it the last 30k miles of it's life?
Are you were refering to me? If not disregard. I bought the Eclipse used with 95,000miles on it. I knew the previous owner and he dragged the car almost every Friday for "Test and Tune" at the local track while I was still racing the mustang. He drove it very hard on the street as well. When he decided to sell I bought it and drove the hell out of it. I could say It saw 7500+rpm everytime I drove it. It has seen over a 100 drag passes. I still have the car with a race built motor.
My 4x4 F-150 is 4200 pounds, so a lightning should be around 4000 pounds (due to the fact it doesnt have the front drivetrain).
I dont know where you got that info, but a Lightning weighs in right around 4700 lbs. I am positive your 4x4 weighs quite a bit more. A Supra weighs in around 3300 lbs, and is much more aerodynamic.
Its a TRUCK for christ sakes, and still runs with the sports cars. Ford definately did something right. I am amazed every time I drive my 03 L, it feels solid, its roomy and comfortable, and whips up on most of the cars I run across. Plus I can still take trips to Home Depot with it to haul lumber!
The 2001+ models are even quicker and I've seen mag tests (Car and Driver, for example) where the Supra TT ran slower than a 13.62. I will conceed that a well driven Supra TT will take a well driven Lightning. However, you said (and I quote) that there is "no way" the Lightning could beat a stock Supra. It is certainly within the realm of possibility. I'd say on average the Supra TT is about .5 second quicker than a 2K1+ L. A moments hesitate or some wheelspin by the Supra and the Lightning wins. The driver of a stock Supra would be making a serious mistake thinking a Lightning was an easy kill.
Like Supras (and most other forced induction vehicles), the Lightning responds very well to mods. I ran a 13.110@106mph (2.02 60ft) in my 2000 Lightning with only a chip and CAI. Stock tires, tire pressure, no wieght reduction, 92 octane gas. A 13.110 is quick enough to beat 99% of stock Supra TTs.
I've got a '03 HD 150 and an 88GT Mustang hooked up fairly well. I can't see a rice burner beating me without spending some serious cash. I get those punks wanting to run me all the time. I usually dispose of them without leaving second gear and burning much fuel. There are not a lot of fast ones just all decorated with cheesy azz stickers, wings and fart pipes. Get real...get a V-8.....Go Ford
I see cars around town all time that are hunks of crap, with big aluminum spoilers on them, paint faded and sratched, the stock and/or chezzy walmart style hub caps. Some people are just too dumb the figure out how to build a car the right way. Granted we all dont have the cash flow to go out and spend tons of money on machine work and cams and such to actually make a 4 banger fast but atleast take care of your cars exterior first, ya know, have the sratches and dents fixed buff out the faded paint yada yada yada, maybe throw a decent pair of actual rims on it. The freaking spoilers can cost just as much as some nice used rims! The paint being nice and SMOOTH will probally make the car "faster" then a HEAVY spoiler which increases the DRAG on your FRONT WHEEL DRIVE car. A very CLEAN, STOCK car looks much better!
I like the guys with the hat backwards, sunglasses on thier cap and all the goodies. Spoiler 3' off the trunk lid, deep tint, huge fartpipe(exhaust), mass quantities of stickers spoting that go fast look. Then they translate that into wanting to race me for some unknown reason. I don't usually bother with most of em. But when they sport the girl and are looking to impress, thats when I usually humiliate them. But they won't get to the giggle gas, thats for real racing. I'm laughing just think about them!!!
Both Supra's and Skyline's are capable of 1000+ hp. Me being an avid import fan, I know alittle about the Toyota Supra. The Toyota Supra is a car that responds very well to mods. If you start with the MKIV engine you could expect to see serious gains depending on the type of after market turbo(s) you run. For instance, an HKS/JUN/GREDDY setup can give you roughly 650+ RWHP. Now of course this is a high hp application so the need for updated everything is an issue.
A Supra TT w/3.0L, comes stock with 320hp and 315 ft/lbs of torque. Now of course this is never enough, so you'd add a bigger T28 or T51 turbo(s), front mount intercooler, BOV(s), updated fuel delivery (fuel rails, injectors, fuel pumps. ect), and more of the happy stuff that makes you smile.
Now for me I hate street trucks. I think trucks are made to haul stuff and carry stuff, not just drive around and race. But that's just my opinion.
A stock Supra TT would beat a stock Ford Lightning in a race.
I won't even get into the Nissan Skyline R34 GTR. Sick, Sick car. It excells in every aspect. AWD, 300 hp stock (capable of 1000+ hp), handling like no other, aggressive styling. They are a japanese supercar.
Hmm pretty bad when the jap "supercar" is just 300hp...my hick LS1 camaro SS was what 345hp stock at the crank? a skyline...dont they cost something like $95,000 to have one imported and made emissions legal? next time i have $95,000 to spend on a car..im picking up a $3000 5.0...dropping $92,000 into it...now thats a supercar :P
Dollar for Dollar there is not a better brand to buy new and build then a Ford. That is why Camaro's, Fiechickens and the rest have quietly fadedinto the sunset. Take a stock GT Stang and put $5K in it and you'll lose a Vette. Now I'm not saying its better then the Vette but $ for $ its no match.
Not only can you make a mustang fast, but reliable and still a daily driver. My friend dropped a 350hp Ford Racing 5.0 in his 88 mustang GT and off he went, does 13's in the quarter mile and EASILY has room for MUCH more.
Thats what I'm saying. I've got a very streetable 400hp 88GT w/o the Juice. I've also got all the suspension, rearend and complete drivetrain set up right. I still don't have half ofwhat one of these new rice burners cost new into it and I get comments about how sweet it is at most every light. Now I admit trashing a Ricerunner is a lot of fun especially when they fit THAT mold. I always think of the phase in "I can't drive 55" when Sammy says" I cant get the car out of second gear
