no pictures, but around 20 years ago i went to dig some test pits to see what was underground before bidding on a job. the "crust" of rotted vegetation on top of the swamp broke and the 215 cat excavator started to sink.
there was 12 foot of very fine wet saltwater silt under the 2 foot of crust. super fine stuff, like quicksand.
it took 2 D-6 cat dozers, 1 977 trackloader ,and 2 D-8 dozers all chained together to drag it out after using a 235 excavator to dig out around the 215. 4 large diesel pumps to dewater the pit, and a trailer load of meadow mats to set all the machenery on.
that operation took 3 days, and the 215 was totaled by the insurance company because the fine silt got into everything.
N no, you don't want mud like that. It's bottomless . It took 5 rigs, a winch, and 3 to 4 hrs to get out. Plus, had to replace the alt, electric fans, and clean the mud out of the distributor.
