Door Mirrors

Silly question but are the mirrors from newer rigs (80 - 96/98 bronco-f150/HD) compatible with the dents? They look similar but I don't want to grab a pair and have the geometry slightly off.

If so... Not that this is critical but anyone ever done power mirrors?

Nothing worse than a mirror that wiggles on its swivel. Except big gov't and taxes.

I have a pair of those mirrors from the PO who sold me my 70 Bump. They attach with two screws to the door (like normal) but due to their length and weight, have an arm that goes through door and secured with another screw attaching it to the door's inner shell.

I don't like the look of 'em cuz they're too modern. For my Dent, I went with early 90 Ranger mirrors - lightweight, plastic, and attached easy.

Yeah I was kind of thinking about power mirrors looking a bit to modern kind of out of place on a dent. But what it sounds like you're saying is I should look for a set of mirrors from a ranger or bronco II.

Here's a pic of 'em. Heavy... It's labeled as a replacement for a 92-96 Broncos and pickups. See the arm?

Your call on what ya opt for. I'm just letting ya know what you're gonna be dealing with.

No I am with ya. To much trouble. Plus its not like adjusting is hard. Heck you pretty much do it onces and your good until they start wiggling.

I know some of you all are going to dislike the idea of chevy parts but... 80's and 90's conversion vans have power mirrors and I think they look pretty good on dents. The stainless base took a little bit of trimming to make work and the arm had to be unbent a few degrees. Not dificult but not a bolt on part either. I don't have a pic of them on the truck but here is one from the type of van they came from.

Another option that I know works (bought them first then found these) is mid 90's Dodge van mirrors but they are just black and not stainless.

A 73 to 79 will bolt on the best, a 80's and up will but the the top bar to start angle up. There is a guy on ebay selling OEM 79 mirrors cheap....he has a mess of them and like 30apiece and they are the ones with the top bar straight, like it should be.

I would think that in cali you can hit a JY and get some decent oem sets or piece together a good set.

There were FIFTEEN different types of outside mirrors used on 1973/79 F100/350's. Which type are you referring to?

Excepting the Passenger Car type, all the mirror heads were available separately and include the pivot.

1980 and later mirrors will not fit properly as the door contours are different.

Fair enough... This type.

This one is actually fine. The drivers side is of the same design; it is the one that wiggles.

I will look in pick n pull for a similar replacement. I was thinking along the lines of a newer replacement being a bit easier to find and in good shape.

1973/79 F100/350: There were 4 versions of type 9, this one is: D4TZ-17696-A .. Low Mount Swing-Lok Mirror / Right/Left is the same / Has flat upper and lower mounting brackets / 1973/77 F100/350 / Obsolete

All you need is the 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" mirror head which is: D4TZ-17723-A (see below for sources) which was also used with the 1976/77 version (D6TZ-17696-A) with curved upper and lower mounting brackets.

GRIESEL MOTOR CO. in Okarche OK has ONE = 405-263-7242.

ANTIQUE AUTO SUPPLY in Arlington TX has ONE = 817-275-2381.

NOS PARTS SOURCE in Olathe KS has ONE = 913-220-5746.

JST AUTOMOTIVE in Lebanon TN has ONE = 615-443-3086.

1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco: There were two other type 9 versions, the major difference is with the mirror heads which are slightly larger (6" x 9").

One type of 1978/79 mirror head does not use a gasket between the mirror glass and the head, the other type does.

The span (distance) between the mounting brackets is specific to either D4TZ-17696-A or D6TZ-17696-A / 1978/79 only has the same span, but uses different sized and types of mirror heads.

See post #11: As I said, there were FOUR different type 9's used 1973/79. I identified the type of mirror that the OP has on his truck.
