mods list

ok so i am on deployment and just bought my 04 f350 shortbed before heading out.
i have a mod listing and just wanted input on goods and bad for each system, manly on the airdog fuel filtration system good or bad idea

airdog 150gph (for the future motor mods) any onw running this, i figure the water seporator is a really good thing, i think its easier to use then the 2 stock water seporators and such. i belive the kit goes from the tank stright to the lift pump, correvt incorrect. that is teh mod i want to do, yet from that tank sump to the airdog to the lift pump.

xdp fuel tank sump kit (allows all fuel from tank to be use without reducing fuel pressure at 1/4 tank when at wot also will be dropping the tank to clean and make installation super easier

blue spring

xdp coolent

ssbc v8 caliper with 4wheel kit- yes it expensive but i travel alot with the army and my town has a lot of bad drivers, i want to tow my other race/project vehicals and who knows what else. i am a furm beliver in stopping power

isspro turbo temp monitor as my turbo timer

there are other but this right now is at the top of my list. these mods i want to install while i have my R&R in a couple months

i am going to have the ficm looked at make sure its good.
what batteries are best, i was thinking optima yellow tops
bullet proof oil cooler and soon a bullet proof egr. egr has been replace already
Riffraff diesel auto dash kit with 6slot switch for auxilary add ons to come but maily for 2 gagues.

about gagues what are the gagues that are needed. i know oil, tranny, egt, boost, and a scangague, any others i should get?

is there any other really recomended mods i should look into or need to get.

I separated this, but I have no idea where you got this idea from. I have had a fuel PSI gauge on my truck stock and modified and I have never noticed a drop in fuel psi below a quarter of a tank. And I constantly look at my gauges.

Is this a programming "thing" in the early 6.0s? I know my 05/06 doesn't have it. Trust me, I've been WOT more then a few times.

Although I will admit that I don't let it go too long below a quarter of a tank, but I still haven't noticed a loss in pressure at WOT when I'm down there.

Some of those are redundant when it comes to your gauge list. The scangauge should be able to read all of those except EGT (I think it does allow for one expansion, but I can't remember if it's for EGT or fuel PSI). Although I would add fuel PSI in there as well as that requires an external probe like EGT.

I, however, would suggest an OBD-II gauge that allows for external probe expansion for both EGT and Fuel PSI, that way you only have to look in one area for all your gauge readings. Unfortunately, the scan gauge, best to my recollection, only does that for one.

As to the rest of your mod list, it all depends on what the end result is that you want for your truck. All out HP/TQ, or all out HP/TQ but still street and/or tow worthy?

ScanGauge isn't expandable it's OBD only. Every once in awhile someone will come up with a "new" gauge by figuring out some codes.

ScanGauge Capabilities

First, what it won't do:
Fuel pressure
Exhaust gas Temp
Low (crankcase) oil pressure*
These values are not monitored by the engine computer, there are no sensors under the hood so the SG can't see them.

What it will monitor:
Fuel Level
Battery voltage
Engine coolant temp
Engine oil temp
Trans fluid temp
Intake air temp (on 2 different sensors)
Injection control pressure
Injection pressure regulator
FICM (fuel Injection Control Module) main power
FICM vehicle power
FICM logic power
FICM sync status
Camshaft sync status
Crankshaft sync status
Fuel injector timing
Fuel injector pulse width
Fuel injectors 1-8 on/off commands
Radiator fan speed
Radiator fan duty cycle
Barometric pressure (ambient)
Exhaust back pressure
Turbo Boost (by tinkering with baro settings)
Turbo duty cycle
manifold absolute pressure
Accelerator pedal position
V-ref voltage
Trans shifter position (automatic)
Mass Fuel Desired

These are the main ones. People are still tinkering with codes for misfire counts on specific cylinders and there may be a couple more I missed. In addition to these gauges, the SG has a trip computer that calculates fuel mileage and trip time etc. It also scans for many (but not all) codes that may have been stored if there is a problem that turns on your Check Engine Light. It simply plugs into the OBD port under the dash so install is easy also, and finially, the price is right.
Now for the negative:
The price is inexpensive because it's inexpensively made. The display is LCD but the dots are pretty coarse and it can be hard to read (the color of the backlight can be changed which helps). Half of the gauges you will want to monitor require you to input long strings of numbers to "program" into the unit, it also must be plugged in to do that so you'll be sitting in the driveway for awhile when you first get it. and finially, it is what it is, there are no options to hook up additional sensors to allow it to display the values I mentioned in the beginning.
There are other monitors with touch screens that can be expanded to show the other gauges, like the Edge Insight or DashDaq. These monitors are considerably more expensive but the expandability is important and besides that they just look better. Back-up cameras, mp3 capability, and the ability to completely change the way the screen looks is pretty cool if your budget allows it.

One user on here was saying that you can add an external probe to get I think EGT, but not Fuel PSI on the SG. Maybe it's a new addition to their gauges, I dunno. Or the user was wrong in their facts.

tex to talk more about the 1/4 tank issue. i dont know how offten it happens on common rails but i stilll own my 6.9l and that monster was a pain in the *** if you ever dreamed about getting beloe the 1/4 tank, also it was the best way to suck up any water and crap in the bottom of the tank. witch is why i want to uninstall mine clean it all out. that sump kit is pretty inexpensive and i am not a fan of running a diesel low but with a airdog and a sump kit i will be comfident it wont run air into the system like my 6.9l did. due to fuel slosh and that its was very easy to pull air into the system when under 1/4 of a tank. just because it hasnt happened doesnt mean i cant and wont.

thanks for the info on the SG were are all the codes?
wonder if its possible to open it up and add a bigger screen or the ability to modify the mother board to add a screen somewere else. humm i might tinker with the idea if i get time

First off, don't think of this along the lines of the older diesels, that'll get you into big time trouble with this one.

Second, the only 1/4 tank issue that I'm aware of has to do with the FASS pumps that didn't have long enough pickup line and it would start sucking air when you got below 1/4 tank. That was on the earlier ones and that also wasn't with the stock pump. Now I don't know if the AirDog has those issues too or not, but the fix is just longer line.

I don't know of any issue with the stock pump.

Here's 99% of the codes, few more floating around here. Also the SG website has a list for the 6.0. Hot rod the SG hu? Cool idea.
