7.5 l engine exchange

I need to replace the 7.5 l engine in my 1990 F350. The recommended interchange is from 1988-1991. I can only find a 1994 7.5 l engine. What are the differences and is it possible to use the 1994 engine with reasonable modifications?

They're very similar. I'm currently rebuilding a '88 460 for my '95 truck so that I don't have to take my truck off the road for very long for the engine build. I haven't dove too deep into the differences yet though, so here's a few things I can think of off the top of my head.

The heads and pistons changed from '91 to '92 which provided a modest bump in power. The air pump system, EGR system, and associated vacuum lines changed slightly as well as the alternator upgrade from the 2G to 3G variants.

I'm not sure about the computers though since I plan on ditching the OEM computers entirely. What transmissions are the '90 and '94 using? If it's a C6 and E40D, you might run into a few hickups; if they're both manuals, it should pose almost no issues.

If you have access to an entire '94 parts truck to pull pieces from, I don't see any reason why this won't work barring the transmission differences since anything that is different can be pulled from the donor truck.

7.5 l swap

Sounds like opening a can of worms to swap '90 7.5 l with a '94 7.5 l. I do not want to deal with harnesses and computers, just an easy swap is all I want. Thanks

If you use all the old wiring and acessories then any efi truck engine will work.
Only thing you'll really need to swap I think is the distributor, only if your module is on he side of it and not on the fender like the 94.

It's a bolt in thing.

As stated above, if you use all of the wiring, sensors, and accessories from your original engine, it's a bolt-in.

The wiring isn't an issue. Label and take pics.
It's not that bad to deal with the swap. It's bolt in and strait forward.

Then dont . Take is somewhere and have someone do it for you.

Like other have stated above, just reuse your original sensors and such from your old engine
