I'm looking for a good 4R44E auto trans for a 2000 Ranger 4x4 with 3.0 flex fuel engine. Anybody have a good one?

 

Yeah, look under your truck. Rebuilding your old one is almost always the best, most affordable, and longest lasting option. When you swap transmissions off other vehicles, you usually end up inheriting their problems. When you rebuild yours, well, for starters you know what has and hasn't been touches, you know your maintenance history, you don't have to worry about some subtle little part being different, you don't have to wonder if the trans was previously screwed up by someone who doesn't know what they are doing, you don't have to wonder if the previous owner replaced the fluid and filter, etc. Unless you KNOW something about the donor trans (you don't because you wouldn't be asking this if you did, obviously), I would not bother. If you really can't rebuild your old trans, then buy a rebuilt one that has been upgraded. You cannot swap in a trans that was rebuilt to stock specs, because stock specs are no longer true on a used trans, all used transmission really have to be built to exceed stock specs to compensate for age, and to make them hold up as well or better than a new one.

I have never used one, my own transmissions were never replaced, we rebuilt and upgraded the one on my vehicle, with excellent results. But if I did buy a pre made one, I would go with one from PATC.
