I have the 3.55 and 20" wheels and I tow about 1000 miles/week on average. Usually not as heavy as a camper but I have plenty of time logged with trailers over 10k.

That being said, the config you are looking at will be perfectly fine towing anything you can throw at it. I can understand that if you had trouble in the past you may be wary, but with this new transmission and engine combo it's hard to imagine that you would need a 4.10 or lower.

I say buy it and don't give it another thought. I had my trans flushed at 103k and it looked and smelled new, that's with lots of towing at interstate speeds, all kinds of weights and high profile wind catchers like 5th wheel campers.

Good luck. It would be cool to have a pyro in the diff though, that's a cool idea.

I have pulled my 13000 pound Big Horn fiver 15000 miles in the last two years. I have been up and down the 9% grades on US30 in Pennsylvania. My truck has the 3.55 with the 20's. Early in the introduction of the 6.7 this was discussed a lot. I do not recall anyone complaining about the 6.7 pulling any of the rated loads with either the 3.55 or 3.31 configurations. The axle ratio's are likely the least of your worries.

Regards

I pull a 16K 5th wheel on 3.55 and 20" single rear wheels in the Colorado Mountains and have no issues - Despite what the Chevy Commercials say. In the summer, i do switch to 18" wheels and a harder compound tire to get better tire life. NO issues.

Arnt the only rears available on a SRW Diesel the 3:55 and 3:31? The other rears are for gas and DRW.

I agree. I have the 2011 F350 with 3.55 gearing and single rear tires. I tow a 5th wheel over 14000 #s with no problems.

2012 Super Duty Ordering gude

Here is a link to a ordering guide for 2012. 2012 Super Duty Order Guide - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com It is the canadian guide but most all of it applies to US trucks. It will show you the various combinations you can order (packages) and limitations on what can be mixed with what. I ordered the camper package 471 for my truck, so the guide specifies I cant have 20 inch wheels or 3.31 gears, but get heavy front service springs, stablizer bar and aux springs which I wanted for towing my 5er. Lots of good stuff in here and mandatory reading before ordering a truck. It took me a couple of nights to digest the whole read but it really helped me pick the options I wanted for towing and comfort. Use the guide in conjunction with a website that lets you build a truck with pricing so you can see how options play out in your budget (some of us have limited funds ) Mike

I had an 08 dually. I installed a backup cam and used a nav unit to display and I used an upfitter switch to turn on the cam at other times (check the trailer hitch, see on my pull thru where I was) .. I liked the large 7in screen.
in my 12 F250 non-nav, the image is only in the mirror.. but it works great. I miss the upfitter control.. but I can position the hitch exactly, and I can see really well behind..

like every other setup, when it rained the lense got wet and made for a blurry view.. but cleared quickly..

I wish my other cars had a backup cam..

The Rear View Cam works great, I have the Nav and can't complain about the display or camera quality. Well, I can, I wish I had at least 3 imputs into the display and a switch to change what cam I was watching. One for backing up to the bumper hitch, one for hooking up the Gooseneck hitch and a connection to a camera on the back of any trailer.

I hooked the tailer rear view cam to my Edge CTS and the tail gate cam hooks up my bumper hitch trailers.

I've got more miles towing than I have driving empty. With over 60,000 miles on the truck, No complaints about the 3.55 and 20" tires. Plenty of power for mountain roads. Lots of roads around here at 7% and 8% grades, a few at 10,000 foot elevation. Get the 3.55 and don't think twice about your decision.

+1 what Pam said. I added the lock pick so I can turn on rear view cam on my nav unit anytime, but don't use that very often. Hooking up trailers, priceless.

Lockpick is an add on product that allows you(passenger) to put in Nav
while moving, and turn on the camera at any time, and view video while moving

FORD LOCKPICKS

Sam

Thanks Sam
We went and looked a t a local one today- It was not the lariat ultamate pkg but it was real nice. However it had a 3.31 in it.

Think I want to stay with the 355 after all the replies. The lock pic looks like a good buy to me.

The one that I am looking at is missing steps and my wife wants steps heck I want steps. Makes it easier to wash too. Looks like steps (non-lighted) is about 350.00

So right now the msrp was 46215 with 14815 in options total was 62025.00 and drive out after taxes and all is 55821.00

So I am still stirring the pot. Its not local either. Quite a drive. But at least its not a plane ride. lol

Thanks
