going old school

Just checked the codes in my 1984 BRONCO EEC-IV I6 which is all stock. KOEO brought up 9 codes and I am tired on this computer thing. Truck has never run right since I purchased it. Went and pulled off a 78 ford van the non-feedback carb, Duraspark dizzy, coil, hot box and all the wiring harness that had anything to do with dizzy(all 40 bucks). I also am going back to pull the down pipe from the exhaust manifold to the muffler. (no converters). I am sure this is a easy swap but has anybody done this and was there any problems. I now about the emmissions issue but I had to get a waiver last time through anyway so I think going back to simple I should be able to pass no problem.

Another thing is I will be able to gut most of the vacuum hoses and a bunch of wiring from under the hood.

Thanks

Sounds like a plan and it will make your truck run better. Only thing is I dont think that the older downpipe works with the 84-86 exhaust manifolds. My 83 had the DS 2, non feedback old style stuff and my downpipe wouldnt fit on my friends 86 with TFI computer crap bc the TFI manifold didnt require and donut gasket and the 83 and older ones did. So we just hacked off the front cat and welded on new pipe

Thanks BOSS302

I did take a look at the down pipes and they are differant. I pulled it anyway because I live in Washington State and I have had Muffler shops in the past spaz out if you even think about tossing converters. They would rather sell you, as in my case two, for $260.00 each. I am going to take the 78' down pipe which is the same "shape" and use it as a pattern for the shop to fab a new one with my type of manifold connection.
