New member... Hello

Hello everyone,
Ive been checking out this site for a year or two now watching and learning and finally joined. just wanted to stop and say hi and express my thanks for everything all you guy post on here, it has been a tremendous help for me.

I have a new project my wife bought me as a wedding gift that we are going to restore together, its what i believe to be a 1949 F1, not sure on year... (I am happier then i can express about it) i will be asking several questions and opinions along the way, i will try searching first tho to limit my over posts.

Just want to thank every body in advance...

Welcome brother! Glad to have you!

I echo what the other guys said about you having a great wife to buy a classic truck for you! But I can't complain, my wife puts up with me and my projects very well!

Yeah, try to find that VIN on the framerail and you can go to www.f100central.com as a good starting place to break down your VIN and find out a lot of info about your truck.

She bought the pickup off her dad it was sitting out in a field for the past 20 years that i know of, he was going to crush it... so for $100 wwe saved its life, yes thats one hundred lol. i looked for a number plate, found one in engine compartment, but its not readible, glove box is just the door, nothing behind it. i also looked on the frame rail on passenger side on inside and outside to find nothing. someone conveniently painted in engine bay som numbers... 87HY-87670 i decoded it and it came out as an F3 3/4 ton 6 cyl. i know thats wrong, bc what i have is an F1 with a flathead 8, odd thing is it does have 3/4 ton springs with overloads in rear but half ton axles. im baffled, im positive someone added the extra springs and "used and abused" the pickup... any advice would be greatly appreciated in finding the location of the numbers on the frame rail...

Thankyou!!!

Welcome. Pictures are mandatory. Plus, it'll help us solve your F3 to F1 issue.

ill get pictures taken and try getting them posted tomorrow morning... i know its an F1 its a short box with half ton axles 5 lug, has all the F1 emblems and crome. Its just a case of missing identification lol I crawled all over it trying to solve my mystery to no avail. on the good side the frame looks great nice and straight and solid. and being that i live in kansas i can get a builders/salvage title and a new vin assigned to it to continue my rodsteration

But yah like others have said Pics are great. Take some cleaner and clean the passenger side frame rail around the motor mount to see if you can find the frame stamp

Widowmaker, I have a '48 F1, also with an "HY" VIN number. Mine is on the DRIVER side, directly opposite where you have probably been looking on the passenger side. You may want to check there as well.....

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a great project. Look forward to seeing some pics when you get a chance to post. VIN was elusive on my 54. Never did find it and had it stripped down to the frame so access wasn't an issue. Hopefully yours is hiding under some crud.

i am putting in a 289 with a c4 trans, power disc brakes, 9 inch rear end, toyota power steering and the rest of the truck will be stock. the frame is all back together and i put new floor pans in and got the cab back on. i still need to run brake lines and hook up the steering column. i was going to do this and put cab corners in back in the winter but had to have a knee replaced. going to try and do this before winter because i am going to have the other knee done. post up some photos so we can see what you got. we love photos on here.

Is it an 8BA? I'd love to have it if it is....just tough to get it from KS to AL. I want one to stick in the corner of my garage for a deuce project I have planned a few years down the road.
