on my kingpin dana 60 i did the spring-less caps and crossover steering set up from ballisticfab, i did this a while back and can not remember for the life of me what the torque spec or pre load is for the bolt that presses on the bushing. it feels like its starting to drift to the right a tad and wanted to check that since the tire PSI is the same and tread wear is even.
the factory service manual says the torque is supposed to be 500 to 600 ft lbs for the kingpin bolt.
when i did mine, i only had a 450 ft lb torque wrench.
i tried to set it to 450 using a 6 ft cheater pipe, but only succeeded in rolling the axle around the shop floor because i rebuilt the axle before installing it.
that was close to 23 years and 480,000 thousand miles ago, and it is still tight.
Tom, not the specs he is looking for. He replaced the cap that holds the spring and plastic cone onto that rediculous tq spec bolt you are talking about. He has a cap with a threaded adjuster on it to preload the cone.
