So I pulled out the "original" 8 track stereo, which turned out to not be original at all, and replaced it with a modern deck. The wiring job from the PO was completely buggered up; short extensions of wire wrapped to other short extensions of wire wrapped together with tape. When I put in the new deck I cleaned it up and put it together properly using insulated connectors.
I thought the install went well until the stereo started shorting out and restarting itself. Then today, while driving around town smoke started puffing out from under the drivers side dash. While trouble shooting it tonight, it blew a fuse, turned out to be the fuse for the switched 12+ wire to the deck. I am hoping that this is what was causing the smoke from the dash(who knows what other wiring hack jobs the PO did).
So, I need to run a new switched power wire back to the deck, where is the best place to run this from?
Yeah, that's the one I believe to be shorting out. I want to replace that wire and run a new wire. I'd rather tap into another switched power source, as I do not know how the factory wires attach inside the fuse box; I don't know how to remove it, or how to secure a new wire into its place in the box.
