Done this same trip in January and got 10.8mpg with 900 miles on her when we left. This time She had 4000 miles on her and fresh oil rotella T6. Biggest difference probably is summer grade fuel

That is pretty good. I average 10.4 empty in a C&C with same gears.
The fuel economy subject tends to center around rear end gearing, lower engine rpm at freeway speed is the goal for fuel economy, and folks say higher and lower gear a lot.
Yes, a 3.55 is a higher gear than a 4.10, but a lot of folks skip that part and refer to them as numbers and say a 3.55 is low. It's confusing.
