Hey everyone, I will be in the market for tires soon. I want something different than everyone else. It is a daily driver used 99.9% on the street but i want to do some basic offroad when i need to. I saw some Kelley Safari's on a Toyota today. They look like my ballpark. Anyone go anything to say about them?
My dad has them on his 2001 F-150. He (and I) hate this tire. He NEVER off roads it, so I don't know about that. On pavement, they're decent, kinda loud for that conservative a tire. On wet roads, they're not near as good as my cheap, tire shop take off Coopers. I don't know if you live in a snow area or not, but that's where they REALLY suck. In deep snow, they're not too bad, but anything packed or icy can be real interesting. I realize you want something different, but my opinion is everyone may have the same thing because they're better.
I replaced my 35" goodyear MT's last fall... with 35x12.5 Kelly Safari AWR's.... I LOVE THEM... best $117 i ever spent on a tire! I spend most of my time on the highway, and rotate all my tires every other oil change (7,000 miles-ish) They're super quiet, considering how big they are and are wearing GREAT. Instead of going with normal wack on or stick on weights, i went with the EQUAL tire balancing system - basically they throw pouches of polymer pellets in your tire when they go to mount it.... after a few miles the bag dissentigrates (sp) and then you are left with a constantly balanced tire - esp. great for larger tires like mine. It's been used on rigs for years now, and is finally starting to cross over, from what the tire guy told me.
anything else i can answer for ya... just let me know!!
