Will a 302 block that was originally fitted to a C4 from a 79' F-100 bolt up to an AOD in an 89' Bronco?
Yes. But make sure the 79 flexplate's bolt pattern for the torque converter matches the AOD, it should, but make sure and test fit it just in case. C-4's came in three bellhousing sizes: 147, 157 and 164. AOD's come only with a 164 tooth bell. Your 79 C-4 should also be the 164 if it's original to the truck.
Be very careful about what flexplate you use with the AOD, the offset is unique and I know for sure that C6 and E4OD flexplates are different and will destroy the transmission by pushing the TC too far back into the pump. I don't know if a C4 flexplate is similar or what but I wouldn't use anything that wasn't stamped AOD. For that early 302 you want a 28oz flexplate and that was used in the mid '80s Crown Vic between a 351 and AOD.
Hey guys, there is the #1 post which is sticky in this forumn to describe this in detail. I just did the exact same thing, but using a little older engine. The flywheels are very easy to find and buy. I paid $36 plus shipping this last week.
