Noticed the other day pulling my boat, around 7000lbs, that the boost seemed lower than usual on the second half of the trip. Been on a 60 mile round trip, and noticed I was only boosting to around 28-29 when normally could tap out 40lbs easily. If I put it on the floor now, the gauge will dip slightly then go up to 28-30lbs and level off. The truck still feels strong, but it still should at 30psi, but I dont feel like I'm getting all that I normally do. No lights, smoke, hissing, sucking, etc... This is on my 2010 F350 6.4ltr dually. Got a 1500 mile trip w/ my 5whl coming up and need all 40lbs of boost to get thru the west texas hills. Any thoughts?? Thanks
this is a TSB..does not necessarily apply to your case but..
6.0/6.4 Fuel Economy:
Ford vehicles equiped with the 6.4 PowerStroke diesel are not rated for fuel economy by the EPA. If economy is in question, a boost test should be performed. If boost reaches 22-25 PSI in third gear, wide open throttle under load, then th engine s operating normally and no economy related repairs need to be performed. If not in specs, then the engine will need to be diagnosed--check sensor reading, VGT and EGR operation, fuel pressure and quality, crankcase pressure, intake or exhaust restriction, exhaust or CAC leaks.
Fuel economy will be affected by many factors, including: excessive idle time (one hour equals approxmately 33 miles of driving), fuel quality and blend, ambient temperature, driving habits, vehicle use, towing, loads, add-on accessories. Broadcast Message 1271, 4450, 6989
The stock turbo system is rated to 41 PSI, but I don't think I ever saw 40 PSI on mine. I think I may have hit 35 on occasion at WOT, but I'm certain it never hit 40.
ON edit:
Check out this video. It was taken a few short months before my truck's untimely demise and was recording 0-60 with 12,000 lbs in tow. Notice that it barely exceeds 30 PSI even when screaming at 3,000 RPMs?
I'm completely stock. I know towing my 5er, ~17,000lbs, I could easily hit 40psi or close when merging on the highway or if I needed to get up to speed in a hurry. Now, if I put it on the floor it actually drops psi a little then goes up to ~30 and stops. Senic, I'm planning my New Mexico trip for June and I cant have a under performing truck, especially in the mountains. I will print that out and take it with me when I go into the dlrship monday. I dont excessive idle and I run the PM22A additive in every tank so I'm hoping it's something simple...wishful thinking! Does your truck get over 30psi?

All the time. I have pegged the needle a few times. Most of the time around 36 max psi though and that is pulling wot and 23K GCVWR up a long long grade.
Thought I was having a boost issue with my 08 350, and the fuel mileage really took a crap. And since the 3/36000 was almost up I took it to the service of a local dealer (not the one I bought it from). Said only thing they could find was the air filter was a little dirty, so I put a new one on and reset the minder. Not much difference, and my fuel mileage wasn't much better. Still think the original dealer changed something when they flashed it for the recall, cause that's when things got sheety. Still don't have 16,000 miles on it so maybe it ain't broke in yet.
