Downshifting the automatic?

Is it bad to downshift into 2nd and then to 1st while coasting to a stop instead of using the brakes as much? In other words, is it hard on the tranny? I've never done this before but wanted to ask you guys before hand. Oh and I'm asking this on the automatic 4R100, not the manual. Thanks

i down shift from od all the time to slow down. so i hope it dose not hurt it.

Just be careful of using 1st as a major stopping device.

IIRC, Mark K. mentioned that its a weak link when decelerating hard using it.

Don't go to 1 too often. That is a weak link. Plus brakes are a lot cheaper than transmissions. Do downshift to control speed on downgrades, but for everyday stopping I prefer the brakes.

Sounds like I'll be sticking to the brakes then. I'll go into 2nd if absolutely needed and just all together stay away from 1st.
