Alternator questions

This is for the truck in my signature below.

I need to get a 150 AMP alternator and it was suggested that I get a 56 mm or 60 mm pulley because it would be better for generating power.

How do I measure my pulley to figure out what size I have now?

I have looked at alternators and many sites mention G2 or G3, how do I identify what I have now so I know what to get as a replacement?

Thanks

go to a rebuilder and tell them what you want to do and what you need. they will build you an alternator for less than you can buy one from a parts store.

2G has a plug on the back with two black/orange wires going to a fusible link before the hot side stud of the fender mounted solenoid.
These things can't even handle the 65A output of the factory alternator.

3G's come from the factory in two case diameters.
135mm = 95A , 4 hole
148mm = 130A , 2 hole
The larger cased one can be reliably built to 160A but you will need either two V-belts or an 8-rib serpentine to drive it.

160A X ~14V = 2240W /746 = 3HP
