I'm doing a little research and thought I'd ask members what they think is a good battery choice.
My truck originally came with a 850cca and I'm on my third 850. I've been told a general rule of thumb is 2cca's for every cubic inch. That would mean a 650 is enough.
My question is: Is the 200 extra cca's worth the extra $$$? My truck is typically outside and the coldest it gets around here is -10 degrees "F".
I would go with a minimum CCA's of what the manufacturer recommends. A little extra never hurts, but I wouldn't go overboard unless you have a lot of extra electronics drawing a lot of extra juice.
They cost a little more, but I can't recommend the optima series of batteries high enough. I only own one but it's outlasted five vehicles. Probably the best part of them though is they don't leak acid at all. If you put on new cable ends when installed they will still be shiny and new looking years later. It also ends that white powder and corrosion that always forms on the fender below a normal lead acid battery.
