It's not hard to change the oil without making a mess. After all the warnings here, just use a tall bucket and catch the darn oil. Literally, I got oil on four fingers and maybe two drips on the floor. C'mon.

I'm also crazy enough to just get oreilly brand 15W-40. It's shell oil rebranded. Store brand stuff is fine, weights depend on your climate. Ambient temps on the roads I travel are usually 90 or higher 6 months out of the year.

Me do it:

1. Filter @ $22.99
2. 4 gallons of oil (16 quarts) @ $17.99/ea or $71.96
3. Renting the oil rack on base @ $3.50
4. 30 min

They do it:

1. Oil change and filter @ $74.99
2. Drain WSF
3. Fill DEF
4. Check all other fluids and top-off
5. 50 point inspection
6. 45 min in and out
7. Warranty on the work

Seems like a no-brainer. Your dealers seem to be overcharging by double. The dealer I use is Westland Ford in Ogden, UT if you all want to verify the cost.

Z3ro, Don't forgot every 5th one is free at dealer. At least if you get online and sign up for Fords Owner Advantage.

Plus it gives me a chance stay in touch with my service advisor. After all our visit when I owned 6.0L, hate to loose contact with him because I never bring this truck in.

Wife's Lincoln - no room to work, goes to dealer 5 minutes from the house.

Truck - plenty of room to work, gets done in the driveway, no mess.
Filter gets punched and drains while the oil is draining.

Have the FUMOTO but after having the first one leak found it really isn't necessary on the composite pan, if you use a long extension and just take your time. The FUMOTO just is slower, which can mean less of a mess.

I have a bucket that my dog's food additive came in, just fits and holds about 4 gallons.

Usually get the oil at wally world, look for it when I am in the area, not when I need it.

Filters and additives - Diesel Filters online. Make an order when I can get enough for free shipping.

To make things a bit easier, I built ramps out of 2x8's. The extra 4.5" lets me get under easily with a creeper.

That would be great if I could find a dealer here to do it for that, but ya...they're all at $150 or more. They don't fill the DEF, top any fluids or drain the WSF, but do rotate the tires which I can do in 30 minutes.

I ended up doing it myself in about 20 minutes at 9 PM in my driveway on my back. No muss...no fuss. Didn't even need any tools.

3 gallons of T5 $50
1 quart of T5 $3
Filter $24

I used an $8 open top 15 quart oil catch pan and ended up with a few drops on me and a few on the driveway.

I'll need to do it again sometime around August 2013.

My local dealer charges $140 for the 6.7L oil change (not synthetic), doesn't include DEF, or tire rotation.

Number of oil changes done on my SD: 3
Number of oil changes my dealer has done for me: 0

I'm surprised no one is referencing the Ford ESP. For less than $2K I have all scheduled maintenance covered for the severe duty schedule. Shocks/struts, wiper blades, hoses, belts. No deductible. It's great. I priced it out at dealer price over 100,000 miles and I think I saved 66%. All done by Ford techs and entered in Oasis and my FLM owner account.

have the dealer do it if you can afford it, especially during your warranty period if anything happens your basically covered than if you do it yourself. Wait until the warranty is done before you do that stuff, just my opinion.
