I just asked a Ford tech, the usual procedure is to pull the cab to replace the oil cooler. There isn't any such thing that can't be done with the cab in place, but many things take longer and require much more disassembly.

So do both turbos, and replacing them is also normally a cab-off affair.
The turbos and intake manifold have to come out to get to the oil cooler.
lol
That REALLY sucks.
Why do oil coolers seem to fail on 6.0's and newer, can't be regen, 6.0's never had regen.
Is it a coolant issue, or oil issue?
Sucks that a truck with 60,000 miles has to be disassembled to this degree.
Something is wrong with the cooling system as well. It's been to ford countless times, for leaking, and thee time I thought I blew the head gaskets, and after getting a awesome guy to look at it, it turns out that he found that with a laser thermometer, that one head is way hotter than the other, and he figures it probably over heated and warped a little.
I don't know lots about the cooling system in the block and heads, but I had assumed it was fairly bullet proof, and that it would flow even and equal. Turns out that was wrong. I asked for an actual number, and all he said was that is was a "huge" difference.
I wonder if these issues could be connected in any way? Maybe some major cooling system issues? It's been just flushed and filled at ford a month ago, so I'm sure the actual coolant isn't the issue.
I've never noticed any weird fluctuations of temperature on the dash daq.
They took my cab off when they changed my oil cooler. That solved some of the temp diff, it was before i was chipped so i cant tell you the temps but it made my wrench light come on... then they still had a greater than normal temp diff and the ford engineers told my dealership to replace my radiator and thermostats and that cured the problem that was like 8,000 miles ago all covered under ford 100k motor warranty.
Yeah I think I have a problem with rad/ thermostats.
Sometimes ECT is 190, sometimes it's 198.
Sometimes it changes rapidly up or down.
Sometimes my EOT is elevated, and not always when it's hot out, under hard acceleration, or regen. Makes no sense.
one of my heads also has much higher temps than the other.
Ford won't do anything.
The only way I'll buy another diesel is if they start moving the engineers that designed this crap to the dealerships that fix it.

Return the truck to stock, the way i got mine to flag was at a dead stop stomp the accelerator until it goes to max speed and then stop slowly keep doin that until the wrench light comes on and bring it to the dealer but dont turn the truck off it will clear itself if you do.
