56 F-100 stock front leaf shackles

I have a 56 F-100 that has a lot of banging coming from the front when I drive over bumps. It has the stock straight axel and leaf springs. I have been looking for loose stuff, such as springs, spring U bolt clips, and shocks etc and have found everything tight. But I have noticed the front shackles on both front leaf springs look like they may have problems. The shackes are not vertical and they are in more of a horizontal posistion, with the spring eye bumping up against the frame. Shouldn't those shackles be in a vertical posistion? I am talking about the wheels being on the ground with the full weight of the vehicle. Sorry, I do not have pictures to post....
