Whats the deal with the np 203
I've seen referances to the full time 4wd for the street np203, I've also heard you can lock it for off road. My question(s) is are they any good, are they expensive to rebuild, are they even available? and lastly do they suck up more power than the np205, I dont want my stallion to plod along like a clydsdale pulling an overloaded beer wagon
A New Process 203 as you know is a full time unit, although there are part time kits available for them. I personally do not care for them. They have a chain in them, and I have seen this chain break, and the fact that the front driveshaft turns all the time creates some drag, which in turn affects your fuel usage.

I have a 79 f 250 with a 203, I got a complete kit from mile marker, hubs etc. It works great, however I prefer warn hubs which I currently run. Perhaps warn has such a kit, my chain was in good shape to begin with, I run 35 in bfg mudders, with now t case problems. I keep the essential oil's changed anually. Good luck. lanceman.
i have a 203 in my truck and broke the chain in it in january. i rebuilt it for about 130 bucks with a new chain and seal/gasket set. the bearing set costs an aditional 150. its not a bad case as long as you have the part time kit installed. its just 300 lbs of steel. which mens it is a pain in the butt to remove and install one. with the part time kit installed it just like any part time t case. it isnt as strong as the np 205 due to it being chain drivin. to find out more info on the case go to google and do a search for np 203. you will find a ton of web pages that talk about the 203 t case.
i also have the NP203 in a 79 Bronco and the mile marker conversion kite and it was the best $99.00 i ever spent, and it cut my MPG in half almost! But for the heavy duty pulling and mudding and trailer towing i rely on a N.P.435/N.P.205 in my F-350 4x4 dually!Home built.take a look it's in my gellery.
